Yeah, the first episode is kind of typical Urobuchi/10. It's kind of episodic at first, but it gets better later.

I'm happy and content with the ending of Naruto.
So am I kinda, but I wish we found out what became of Spoiler: click to toggle Orochimaru. Did he just...go away? Yeah I mean
Spoiler: click to toggle There are many things that should bother me too but I stopped really caring that much long ago. I'm just content how it was finished with what they had.
I don't really remember if they ever explained deeper on how Gaara was chosen as kazekage but he was one the most popular characters at the time so it wouldn't be surprising if Kishi did it to keep the character as relevant as possible for as long as possible.
My number one issue is still Orochimaru. He's been a villian since day 1 but we don't know who he really is, who his parents were, why the [radio edit] does he look like a snake? I mean he literally got snake eyes. And now during the final arc he turned good, kind of, out of nowhere, is seen in one panel in chapter 699 but then nothing in either chapters. Personally I think it's implied that he continues stalking Sasuke during adult Sasukes part of these chapters. It's what he always wanted and Sasuke notices something but goes "Just my imagination". If that has any purpose I think it's to imply Orochimaru still wants that body.
There are many other characters who are a mystery. Hopefully the canon and final movie will expand upon these.
Like some of the couples. Most of them I get. Most of them has been pretty much canon in the story already. And like we already noticed, Chouji and that black girl from the cloud ninjas? They've never even spoken or been in the same panel before this.
That Sasuke player though. Sakuras obsession with him reached a whole new level. I guess between 699 and 700 he returned, squirted a baby into Sakura and then left again. And Sakura is just fine with it. He tried to kill you like 3 times? Eh he probably meant well. It's a pretty abusive relationship. Think Joker/Harley. She just keeps coming back for more.
Why is Anko fat?
ah well.
also, look behind the hokage wall during the last pages. It's a [radio edit]ing modern city! And Naruto even uses a Macbook looking laptop in chapter 700. What.
While slowly working my way through my stock of animes I got bored so I got my hands on four new anime series. Tokyo Ghoul, Shingeki no Bahamut, Akame ga Kill and World Trigger.
Tokyo Ghoul
I haven't actually been following any recent violent animes on a weekly basis so this was the first time I witnessed such a ridiculous censorship. I couldn't watch it so I looked around and so far only two volumes with three episodes each, on blu-ray and thus uncensored, has been released and subbed so I'm six uncensored episodes into this series. But I'm liking it. It's a fun twist on the zombie concept.
Shingeki no Bahamut
Ok so I'm having a blast with this. Probably my favorite of the four all so far. It's a cool fantasy world (and it isn't even virtual reality thank god), it has dragons ( ), great animation, fun adventure feeling, even greater soundtrack. Just an overall fun ride and I'm really enjoying it to the fullest so far.
Akame ga Kill
I'm only three episodes into this but colorful, yet very typical, anime characters in explosive fast paced fights? I can dig that. Also a lot of waifu material I suppose.
World Trigger
I haven't actually started this yet and it was the only one of the four I hadn't heard of before and picked mostly out of random but the synopsis has me interested. We'll see where it takes me eventually.

Mushishi ep 4 So, I'm a little confused. Maho was already holding his hands over his ears before, but by the end of the episode, he just holds his hands over his ears and the An dies like that? And it instantly dies for Ginko when he does it to Ginko? Considering their whole "vibrations in the hands" thing, you'd think Ginko and Maho would've popped at approximately the same intervals. But I'm not sure why Maho took literally like a year to pop his own An, but he pops Ginko's within about three seconds. Basically, Ginko suggested nothing different, but it just magically worked now that he was there.
Kind of unsatisfied with the "incident resolution" this episode, it seems kind of inconsistent. Animation was nice, though, and the sound production was particularly fantastic with the muffling.
Mushishi fans, can you clarify this for me?

Mushishi stoofs We're told that the Ah's close relative Un usually lives in the host's ear and that the mushi simply eats silence as its primary function, but for the solution to work we have to think about what that actually means. How I interpret that particular solution is that the sound of human vitality is something that the host must actively focus on in order to agitate the Ah. Ginko knew exactly what he needed to hear when he infected himself with the Ah, and the mushi popped immediately. Maho simply clasped his ears to drown out the sound with more silence, and thus the mushi was allowed to thrive. I guess the key point is whether you buy into the assumption that the Ah recognizes if you're actually listening for a particular sound, but since its influence in the human body spreads beyond the cochlea and into the frontal cortex (as evidenced by the horns) you can make an educated guess that this might be the case.
So you could argue that instead of the Ah eating silence at its most basic level, it feeds on the hosts understanding of what silence is. To push its host's awareness of their own body (perhaps meaning health) to the wayside as a means to live inside it. Like a reverse-placebo, if you will.

Oh yeah, episode 3. My bad.
I guess I could buy that interpretation? I'm glad there IS an interpretation, though, and not just plothole.

Spoiler: click to toggle That one part with Sasuke *could* be a hint at Orochimaru, but I've heard it's that he's actually sensing his daughter since she's pissed at him for not ever being home. The ChoujiXKarui thing is likely intentionally random as hell. And I think Sasuke is pretty much a completely different person now, in a good way for once.
And yeah, I wtf'd @ the laptop and the city. Damn.

Yuuki Yuuna Still not sure where they plan to take this series, but I enjoyed the episode like usual. The characters are cuties. Also, Yuuna and Togo are so gay for each other. Interesting that the main threat was defeated this early on, so that probably indicates a plot twist. Whether it'll be a really shocking one or not remains to be seen. Everyone survived the episode, but it was fairly suspenseful, mainly because I wasn't sure if the show was gonna go full Madoka or not.

Dunno, haven't watched it. It's got Urobochi's name plastered on it, though.
Just got into watching five episodes of Serial Experiments Lain I dunno.
Plotwise, I have a general idea of what's going on, but I haven't quite connected the pieces in a coherent manner. So Lain isn't quite aware that the Navi is slowly taking over her life, right? And that she has some sort of affinity/power related to electronics that seems to affect society in a variety of different ways, mostly ending in people killing themselves/each other. She's even got an alter ego that she's not even close to acknowledging at this point. Hell, the core theme of this show seems to be the vast potential of how we interact with technology (even though most of the technology present in this anime is ancient at this point) and the adverse effects it has. I'm not sure if what I'm saying is a bad/good thing so far, I'm very intrigued with the show but I'm finding it hard to understand.
What I DO understand though is that this anime is primarily an aural experience, which reminds me of Ghost Hound in that regard. The crux of understanding how Lain sees the world is presented in how she hears her surroundings. The steady rumble of the power lines that stretch all over the city. The incessant grating of the chalkboard during class. The loud hum of the ever-growing amount of computer technology that infects her room. Given how slow-paced the show is, it's easy to wander off into its atmosphere and so far it's been a mixed bag. Sometimes I'm completely enamored with what's going on as a result, other times I'm tempted to skip forward every five seconds to see if something actually happens that I can actually understand the first time through.

Oh boy, Simple watching Lain. I'm curious what you think about it at the end. It is a little incoherent at times, no dying that.

I should try rewatching Lain at some point. I have a vague memory of watching some of it when I was probably around 14ish. I don't really remember anything from it though.
Anyway, about midway through Baccano now and it's great. One of the tracks of the OST in it reminds me of Bolero a lot which is amusing, it fits well with where I was hearing it.
