Been rewatching Digimon 02. Suffers from far too long of a first arc, and should have done the whole "do it in one season" thing. There's a lot of filler, but also some moments of genuine pathos. Just finished ep 23, which is one such episode. One I didn't really like as a kid since it's almost all introspection and backstory, but I guess I can appreciate it more now. EDIT: So Psycho-Pass people, how did the remake compare to the original? Which would you recommend watching? |

It's basically the exact same thing except with like an extra few minutes each episode. |

Those extra few minutes mostly serve the purpose of streamlining the two halves of the episode together, since the extended edition bundles two episodes of the original broadcast at a time. It mostly serves to color the philosophies of characters, though most of these are things are stuff you would already know/figure had you just watched the original broadcast, but there's some parts where they decide to focus that extended material on the side characters and it really helps establish how they're treated later in the story. It also leads to some awkward transitions between episodes because no matter how that extra material is utilized, some of the episodes are truly mashed up without a lot of common ground (Episode 6 a.k.a. 11+12). It's a real mixed bag, in my opinion, but as long as you go in with the mindset of seeing two 20-minute episodes per "episode", I think the extended edition adds enough to warrant your attention. |

*slowly removes sunglasses* That's incredible. @UBW Hmm, sounds like the remake is probably better for people who have seen the series already. Losing 20 minutes to gain a few doesn't sound like it would be conducive to a fuller understanding. I'll just watch the original first, then. |

According to the people that watched this at an event they really are an hour long and not just 45 minutes. |

Thank god that was just trolling, 4chan pls. Interesting choice to make the first 2 eps an hour long though, it's not like they have an overwhelmingly large cast to throw at you first thing like F/Z did so it seems like an odd move. Speaking of Psycho-Pass, here's the PV for the new season https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CfQipxKwPbo @King: That Akira one was removed for copyright but it does have a great soundtrack, the chanting and percussion definitely do give it a chilling ambiance and it remains one of the more unique osts I've heard. |

Rin's prologue is kind of long though. I can definitely see how they can fit an hour into it. |

Yeah, I remember her prologue being quite lengthy now that you mention it. I suppose devoting one episode to that and the other one to Shirou would make sense. |

They probably want to get all of Rin's infodumping out of the way before the meat of the story begins. At least we'll probably have the Lancer fights in there to shake things up. |

So I read Message to Adolf by Tezuka last week. Knowing what I know of Tezuka the themes and story didn't necessarily go anywhere I wasn't already expecting, but he executes it well. I do wish the Israeli conflict segment had been fleshed out a little bit more. And it was kind of odd that he reused cartoony-looking Lamp as a character in this otherwise realistic story and in such a major role. Maybe he didn't feel like he could put a more realistic character in such an utterly contemptuous role? Anyway, I was still impressed by the work and would recommend it. |
