Peo, I don't think you can acronym anime if you're telling it to someone for the first time. That's Majestic Prince, right...?
Look a couple of posts above that one. :U

This is more of a longshot suggestion, but if you end up liking Psycho-Pass because of how it handles its setting you may want to look at Shinsekai Yori. While it is neither cyberpunk nor mecha, it shares a genre with Psycho-Pass as dystopian science fiction and it's based on an actual Japanese novel. It's got exorbitantly slow pacing, however, so keep that in mind if you ever get around to watching it.

Xam'd: Lost Memories certainly has mechs in it but that's hardly the main focus. It's more of an adventure genre with bits of fantasy/mecha elements strewn about for flavor.

The Big O is essentially what happens if Batman had a giant robot at his disposal.

There's also Bokurano, but you should read the manga rather than watch the anime.

Oh shit, it's the clause that's always said whenever mecha's brought up in casual space.

Also both of these are great.

Pretty much everything since the introduction of Five has been going downhill. RIP in pieces.

Also Lisa turned out to be such a terrible character.

Agreeing that Five is awful, but idk why you ever expected Lisa to be a good character.

>tells Peo
>not Draco

look at this sexist shit over here

Anyway, I was mostly curious to see what direction Lisa's character would go in as the series progressed in terms of supporting/opposing Nine and Twelve. I thought seeing some kind of moral struggle there complicated by her desire to fit in somewhere and her loyalty to them would be fascinating to see clash against one another.

Not "oh no I can't cook" being run as a gag over and over again.

I'm afraid to watch ep 9.

I'm afraid to watch ep 9.
More like 3 times since episode 5. And even then the gag is used once per episode it's used.

Besides,

Terror in Resonance

Also episode 9 is pretty [radio edit]in' great. Just be careful of 10.

I knew Draco wasn't serious (she was low-caps'ing), so I didn't bother. :awsm: If you do want us to clearly say "watch Puella Magi Madoka Magica," I guess we can... 8D

So what mangas and animes are popular around here?

Got anything good that includes mechas and/or cyberpunk themes? Extra points if it includes supernatural elements like Ergo Proxy. Some I've seen/I'm watching is Ergo Proxy, Ghost in the Shell, Akira (recently started the manga as well), NGE and Gurren Lagann. Classic or modern doesn't matter. So anything like that. There are like a bazillion different Gundam series, which ones the best? Are they all connected somehow?
Definitely agreeing that Psycho-Pass would be a good watch if you like GitS, similar cyberpunk setting, themes and characters to it but it's different enough that it remains interesting and it's very tense. If you're looking for something cyberpunk-ish that's more out there, the anime Serial Experiments Lain is a unique watch, it doesn't have any cool fight scenes like your typical cyberpunk, but it makes you think and has some neat use of Jungian psychology. The manga, Blame! might also be worth checking out. Blame! is very minimalistic and focuses on atmosphere which definitely isn't everyone's cup of tea, but it presents an interesting world full of all sorts of different "races" of cyber-creatures and there's plenty of action to it.

Also agreeing on Rahxephon and the manga for Bokurano, they're both great if you're looking for mecha.

Reminds me I need to watch Ergo Proxy too, watched some of it at a friend's house and it seemed interesting but I never got around to watching the rest of it.

Yes, but none of it's popular here because mecha is a cool genre to hate.

Peytral pls, pretty sure no one actually hates mecha here. A better example of a genre that's "cool to hate" would be like harem or SoL.

Been watching Barakamon, it's nice. Funny too. Best I can say about it.

Binge read this weekend Omoide Emanon and Sasurai Emanon by Kenji Tsuruta. Here I rambled about it on tumblr in order to recommend it to people who like comics
there are not actually spoilers in this spoiler box

Alright, looks like I have a lot of stuff to go through. Thanks for all that.

Anyone here a fan of Junji Ito? I just can't get enough of his absolutely [radio edit]ed up horror mangas. You just never know what comes next and it's great. His creepy art is the perfect spice to his stories.

I've read Uzumaki and Gyo. I've never watched Gyo but I've been advised that this is the best way to watch Gyo.

I love Junji Ito. Enigma of Amigura fault is my favorite because I read it first, but he writes so many one chapter tales that its hard to remember what else was impactful. I'd look for some of my other favorites but I'm in public right now.
I did not like Gyo though. Too much gross horror for my taste.

162 episodes into Gintama and I believe this is my favorite anime ever. I recognize that shounen stuff is usually of much lower quality, but this is something else.

Finished Psycho Pass, it was pretty great. I don't have much expectations for the sequel since practically the entire staff seems to have changed. I'm going to watch Ghost in the Shell soon since it's similar. Also really enjoying Mushishi, it reminds me of Lost Oddysey's A Thousand Years of Dreams for some reason.

Speaking of Ghost in the Shell and the great soundtrack of the whole franchise, I'm not sure if I've ever heard a more evil theme than Goudas theme from Ghost in the Shell 2nd Gig.

How can such a ridiculous instrument such as a the kazoo sound so evil?

What's your favorite anime soundtracks? Specific songs that stands out among the rest works as well.
