It's interesting to compare what it chose to do right compared to SAO. Among other things, I love how much time Log Horizon devotes to simply explaining game mechanics and strategy of what's going on, as well as the main character's internal thoughts as its happening. SAO actually did that really well its light novels (which was a pretty big part of what made them good), but its anime failed pretty badly at it, and chose to focus on other things.
