This applies to anything; movies, anime, etc. WAS THERE A ROMANCE DISCUSSION I generally dislike romance stuff but I do like Kimi ni Todoke. The anime was cheesy, reading the manga is better cause there's no cheesy music nor are there shoujo twinkles. But anyway it's got some good stuff that other high school romance tales don't have. It's realistic. The characters are awkward, struggle to relate to each other, self-conscious, and there's never any of this "LOVE WILL UNITE US AND LOVE SURPASSES ALL." Very little glamour, but not slice-of-life realistic. not really important spoilers for the manga only Even once the main couple gets together, they spend months being scared to step on each other's toes to the point of becoming distant. They work on it and get closer and encourage each other to think about their careers and futures for themselves and not for the happy ever after. I kinda suspect they'll go separate ways in the end. And the shoujo heroine isn't all "self conscious until the special boy comes and makes me feel good about clumsy lil' me." It does follow the shy girl/popular boy format but they're pretty fleshed out and real. And the girl learns to appreciate herself because of what she accomplishes in overcoming her fears to meet this guy, not just because he liked her. i know you main posters in this topic don't wanna hear about Kimi ni todoke but maybe someone who sees it will haha /o/ I'm tired this post is wierd.
