Though it's a spin-off, Railgun revolves all around Misaka and doesn't tie into Index at all, so you're safe.

In the mean time, I've finished Toshokan Sensou and have started Valkyria Chronicles, which started a bit slow but has since turned out to be quite enjoyable. I'm a little under halfway through. It's also come to me that I might want to rewatch Elemental Gelade.
