This is pretty much what I was saying you queers *I* notice a difference and it does matter to me if it's something action-y like Fate/Zero, but from what I can tell not all people do/care, and I'm clearly right about this. Also lol Alex |

I prefer downloading over streaming, but for not video quality. I just hate depending on streaming anything when I want consistent, fast results in a small period of time that I've already planned ahead for. Maybe it's just my home's internet provider or my computer, but I doubt I'm alone when I say that start-up loading times for a video (especially the higher quality ones) can be obnoxious from time to time, and things are even worse when it suddenly needs to buffer in the middle of an episode. I don't like being at the mercy of a hundred potential internet problems when I plan to watch something hours ahead of time. My parents watch things on netflix all the time. You know, a service that they pay good money to use, and I see them running into buffering problems all the time in the middle of what they're watching. I'd be pissed off if I were them. Streaming's fine for watching stuff on the fly, spontaneously, but I don't like depending on it for an entire series' episodes to be watched either consecutively or from day to day. |

Because you know, I just download from sites I don't trust. Nor do I run a firewall. I invite all of the viruses I can into my computer. |

I've always been a downloader because I needed to create a storage of animoos for the half of the year when I didn't have internet I continue to download because I don't like my media being dependent on the internet, my download speed is godlike, I can get better quality (which since I intend to watch stuff via TV when I get it, will matter to me), and since I delete stuff I don't intend to watch again, I've still got plenty of space. |

I always download any shows that I'm watching. I might stream for a few episodes to see if I want to continue a series but having to wait for the show to buffer and the lack of quality gets to me. Downloading requires less effort and you can just delete a series after watching it so drive space isn't an issue anyways. |

pros for downloading: looks better, subs are easier to read sounds better you can choose between different sub groups no buffering dont need internet once they're downloaded you can keep them pros for streaming: legal (false, unless its an official stream) easier (false) looks the same (not a pro, also false) viruses (you're an idiot) if you only watch official streams for moral / legal reasons, that's fine by me. my problem is with the overwhelming majority of stream viewers, who only watch streams because they: a) don't understand downloading b) would sooner choose the worse option than admit that they were wrong. |

Downloading master race! But more seriously it doesn't particularly matter unless there are high-detailed action scenes or your internet connection is too slow to stream anything except illegible pixels. I download because why not, I have 3 terrabytes of disk space I'm not using for anything else. |

If you think you're immune to viruses because you have an anti-virus or a firewall, then you either don't understand how viruses can work or you're underestimating the ingenuity of malware creators. Or you have a reputable site, but there's still sometimes bad eggs in a basket. My support for streams is based on that I recently got a very bad virus and almost had to wipe my computer (I found it after a month and a half, it was in the master-boot-record -- the part of your computer before windows even loads, so it's undetectable by virus scanners and even a system reformat won't take care of it). I do prefer downloading, but it is risky. Also, Miral, with those Madoka snapshots I don't think people would notice a major difference unless they were side by side. Certainly it's only a bit of fuzziness. Also, this hasn't been raised, but I think the formatting of the download is important as well -- what filetype they're encoded in, and at what quality. |

If I'm feeling lazy I will just stream it. It's simple, don't have to wait for the download to finish either. But otherwise, eh. must have over a TB by now of just anime |

I tend to watch more action oriented shows, so downloading is basically a must if I want to enjoy the action, and thus, the show. Believe me nothing is worse than being in the middle of a fight scene and then it moves so fast the video literally shits itself and all you see are blocky pixels. hahahano.jpg That, and for some reason HD streaming just refuses to work for me. Whenever I watch a stream on twitch in hd I'll get like 5 seconds of terrible framerate and then it goes still. I do see the benefits of streaming, but overall downloading (if you've got the space) is just better. |

I think it was Miral who said streaming is great for figuring out if you're going to like a show or not before downloading it. xP No point in using all that space if you're not... Also, I grew up having to stream until really June 2011, since up until 2008 my computer had 10 GB harddrive, and then 60 GB after that. Needless to say, download video wasn't a thing. |

I should chime in: Attempts to 'save' yourself from virii through streaming are rather silly. 1) If you download something expecting a video, and get an executable instead, and run it, you're doing it wrong. 2) Adobe Flash (what you're probably using to stream) is an Incredibly insecure beast. 3) Flash is also a much more likely target for exploits. People trying to exploit a hole through a media file that you download will have to pick from security holes in any number of various media players. That is, they're more likely to target Flash, and even if they targeted not-flash, they have a lower chance of hitting the media player you chose (and version of that media player). |

Mmm. I guess with torrenting, ALL torrent files are .exe, so it's a little sketchier. >.> |

No, all torrent files are .torrent, which tells your torrent client to download whatever it is you're trying to download. The files themselves can be .exe, but honestly anyone with half a brain should probably scan any .exe before clicking it. >_> |

Torrent files have their own filetype, and all good torrent sites have a list of the files contained within the torrent itself. It's standard practice for me to check through the list and make sure there's nothing suspicious there. And even then, you can uncheck individual files, so even when they include other stuff (like OPs/EDs/Specials), I usually just get the show itself. Plus torrents are required to have uploaders, so if a torrent has a couple hundred or thousand seeds, they're obviously not putting out virii. And there's the "bad torrent" check that most sites allow you to click, too. It's really pretty safe, unless you just don't pay attention to what you're downloading - like everything, really. |

Immune? No. But I don't know why your scouring translation groups that aren't UTW, Commie, GG, Doki, Over-Time. Otherwise you're asking for viruses.
![]() As for torrents, just use NyaaTorrent. |
