To go into more detail, in the news if someone's jailed for abuse for children it will be: John Smith was Jailed today for 10 years for Child Abuse. Means he beat a kid up. John Smith was Jailed today for 10 years for Sexual Abuse of a Minor. Means he was a peadophile. Connotations aren't really used in UK law and stuff. At least as far as I'm aware. We got any UK Law students here?
