Kiritsugu is a better protagonist than (anime) Shirou, Saber actually acts more like, you know, a knight king, Gilgamesh and Kirei have more characterization and depth, and Rider is the manliest character to come out of anime in years. First episode is pretty much infodump though (and it's 50ish minutes) but by episode 5 you should know whether you wanna keep watching or not.

If you're looking for something currently airing then I'd recommend K-Project, but it's pretty controversial in the sense that some people like it, some people don't, and some people think it took way too long for the plot to kick in.

Indeed, that was what killed Ano Hana for me and what caused me to rank Ano Natsu so high. Kokoro Connect reminds me of those two, actually, for all that they're not by the same people.
