I think Luta's talking specifically about manga, not anime.

I don't read manga much because it's expensive to buy and really hard to find good, completed series.

Speaking of manga, binged Shin Getter Robo Tuesday. I'm probably going to start calling TTGL "the anime adaptation of Shin Getter" from now on.

I only read a few manga series at a time, and they are all long and incomplete: Hayate no Gotoku, The World God Only Knows, Nisekoi... And they haven't updated D-Frag in a while :c

I think the only completed manga I've read are Elfen Lied and Negima. At least, I remember those two. I keep up with a few ongoing ones. Mostly Bleach, Medaka Box, Pokemon Special, and recently Kagerou Days(though this one's a fairly recent franchise project thingy with vocaloid/anime/manga/light novels). Oh, and Claymore and Soul Eater too.

...I think that's all. Wow, I really haven't seen much.

The ones I'm currently following are Billy Bat, Hourou Musuko, The World God Only Knows, Magi, Berserk, and Wake Up Deadman. Oh, and Fairy Tail. I've completely read a whole bunch of manga, though half of them are older shounen series.

Speaking of shounen manga, anyone have a favorite, whether completed or ongoing? My personal favorite is Eyeshield 21, followed closely by Slam Dunk and Rurouni Kenshin.

This is basically all the manga I've ever read save for a couple things I read and forgot about from years ago. :awe:

Oh, and Pokemon Special but I stopped reading it around the start of the G/S arc for some reason.

Aaah, Pokespe, I need to catch up on/buy all the issues of that. I read into early D/P arc, then got current and dropped it until a backlog could build. But I get cheesed that all the official translations switch up Blue and Green. Ah well.

Favourite shounen manga? Rave Master, Busou Renkin, and Flame of Recca. Also Pokespe if that counts...?

So I've watched two series in the past month.

Neon Genesis Evangelion was long overdue, given its insane popularity in Japan. I've been told by multiple people that I just need to watch it because of its iconic status, so I finally did. After several episodes, I questioned continuing, since I didn't care for any of the main characters. I stuck it out for a few more, and actually got interested in the story itself, as well as some of the minor characters.

And then I finished it.

The other anime was Usagi Drop, which I picked up as a recommendation after watching Wandering Son/Hourou Musuko. I absolutely loved it, too, to the point where I refused to watch the final episode for a couple days because I didn't want it to be tainted or spoiled by the horrifyingly pissed off mood I spent almost a week in.

I'm actually looking for more shows like those, or like Kino's Journey. I'm not a big fan of the usual slice of life, but unusual and difficult situations like those in Usagi Drop and Wandering Son make them far more interesting to me. The fantasyish quality of Kino's Journey attracted me as well, much like the dream sequences from Lost Odyssey.

Any recommendations for more like them?

Glad to know I'm not alone. I watched Evangelion two weeks ago, and couldn't find myself caring for any of the main characters either. I also didn't really like EoE since the second half was basically just mindless psychobabble and the first half mindless action (I vastly preferred the first half). I found the last eight or so episodes of Evangelion pretty terrible too, but I'm not sure if you feel the same way.

I highly doubt you'd prefer the original ending, since it's about as incomprehensible.

I kept waiting for the revelation, or at least parts of it, to explain the backstory behind Angels and Adam and Ikari's motives and the Impacts and the Dead Sea Scrolls...but when the few things that were explained happened, they had no connections to each other and only confused me more.

Shinji actually started growing into an interesting character to me, particularly when he changed from "I don't want to fight" into "I won't fight." It marked a good step in his development and made me pay a bit more attention to him...but then they simply reverted him as if it never happened, and he went back to whining.

Also, EoE's heavy sex references and symbolism were ridiculously out of place, starting with the damn opening scene. If the series had been using sex more often (or really, for anything more than a single scene), it wouldn't have been so jarring, but as it was, everything was just...awkward. As someone who usually doesn't care or notice symbolism, I was astounded at how irritated I was by it.

If you don't watch it you'll have wasted thirty bucks on a space-waster.

Negima, except for the way it basically had a forced early ending because of rl shit or something.

Jack Rakan and Nodoka best characters. And Negima is Trope Overdosed to hell and back, too.
