Alright, just something that's been on my mind. Morgan Freeman is God an awful lot. And he's good at it. I have no problem with Morgan Freeman being God, it just occurs to me that perhaps culture has chosen him because he is very nice to listen to. Which may not be the best for God. So, I was thinking, when it comes to God (especially the Old Testament God, which I now realize is really more of my concept of God as opposed to the New Testament God...) But, anyway, it seems that for that type of God, maybe Samuel L Jackson might be a better portrayal of God. Thoughts? |

Yeah, this makes sense. Morgan Freeman is nice and comforting, while Samuel L. Jackson sounds commanding and powerful. |

The Japanese voice of Arceus in the Movie 12 sounded like a Japanese Morgan Freeman, if that makes any sense… That said, the Old Testament God was very convoluted and difficult. You can't just pinpoint him, because he was actually written by several different authors, who all had different portrayals of him – the Jahwist Author (J), Elohist Author (E), the Priestly Source (P), the Deuteronomist Source (D), the Jahwist-Elohist Redaction (JE), and the Redactor (R). The God you seem to be referring to is either the Storm-God-like form full of sound and fury that appears in the J, or the cold, distant, and wrathful when laws are broken form that appears in the P. The E and the JE portray a kind, compassionate God capable of regret and being convinced contrary to his decisions by human argument (such as Abraham's). The D holds a similar position, but doesn't portray God so much, as D is chiefly concerned with laws (though D is very contrary in terms of laws against P). The R source recompiled and cleaned up the boundaries between these sources to make it all fit together. R didn't do a very good job, as some things are left unexplained due to compilation of different authors, but R did do the work sometimes, and it's evident where R did work to redact JE, P, and D. That said, this is all for just the Torah/First Five Books. |
