The figure animation is nothing special, but the scenery is excellent. And on Shadow's note, how has this not been linked yet? |

The only series I've been able to get into is Robotech, and that was, like, early 80s stuff. By most people's reckoning, the art style would be bad, and the framerate truly was dreadful. But I liked it anyhow because the characters didn't fall into the anime stereotypes (because the stereotypes hadn't been invented yet) and because some of the lines are so bad, they're good. Also, the script was done entirely by Americans. The series was bought by an American crew who ditched the Japanese story and made up a new one around the footage they had. So you escaped the 'bad Japanese idea of drama' and instead got the bad American idea of drama. But it was something. |

For some reason all the text is in some kind of broken code. Also, you guys sure it's not just 'bad drama' and instead 'drama you're not used to due to being from a different culture'? |

Lol, I see it's highly original environmental design, there. Were they going for that, though? |

My reason? Cuz anime (and manga) is able to break the chains of reality that keep us from doing the absolutely crazy stuff we couldn't do and make it look ten times better than even with special effects in movies. Also because most of the [radio edit]ing shit that's on TV is either soaps, reality TV shows, news, paparrazi shows, or PBS. Not that I have anything against PBS, I still like watching Arthur. And now there's a channel that plays old TV shows back in like the 30s-80s. Modern TV sucks compared to these things. Also, anime is cool. Though I read more manga nowadays ironically. Also, with both, I'm a sucker for the gags and exaggerations they give, like cartoons but with cleaner art. |

I'm not particularly interested in watching anime, myself. Only ones I've really watched are DBZ, Yu Yu Hakusho and Fullmetal Alchemist, and to an extent, InuYasha and Rurouni Kenshin. I thought FMA had a brilliant story and characters, DBZ is just really fun and Yu Yu Hakusho for the same reason as DBZ. I certainly won't watch anime just because it's anime. However, I do know quite a few people who are happy to watch anime just for the sake of watching anime. >_> |

I think that's a silly way to be. Er, watching anime because it's anime. I watch anime because I can find the sort of stories I like in that format, just like I can with books and movies. Anime is just a medium that can be used to tell stories.

If my dad had bought cable TV, then I'd be more focused on cartoons than anime. I don't watch anime for the sake of watching anime. I actually watch either for the sake of not watching reality TV shows. Cuz I see all people on those shows are just whore-seeking-freaks. Though I don't hate all of them. I love the game shows. Uh...where was I? Oh yeah, I watch anime cuz it's cool!

One key difference between western shows and Japanese shows is that anime (usually) has a solid ending to a season, whereas western shows tend to plan themselves for several seasons, only to get canceled halfway...or sometimes not even finish with a season. A season amounts to an arc of the full story, usually. And I get irritated when shows deliberately leave massive plot points open. Heroes, season 1, was probably one of my favorite shows, until the ending, when Spoiler: click to toggle Western shows are often too afraid to make too decisive an ending, possibly for fear that people won't watch a second season if there's no cliffhanger compelling them too. Anime suffers from this sometimes, but not nearly as much. |
