I'd probably like Mecha anime if I bothered to watch some. Not all, just the initial ones I watch and then the unorthodox ones. |

I will also admit that I am fond of giant robots, but only because I'm a tech-head. *shrug* It is very easy to see how the sub-genre gets stale, though, and so there's many that I skip entirely. |

? I did think Transformers came out of Japan, but I never did research that I can remember, so I am now going to go check Wikipedia for some doubtable proof either way. EDIT: and upon research, it turns out Transformers was originally a Marvel comic back in the 80s! |

/thread jack The Big O is the most unconventional mecha anime I have ever seen. Granted I've only seen it and Gundam Wing...does Kikaider count? |

You should really change the title to "Why do you watch anime OR TV" if you're going to complain about that >_> Minus the part about "Japanese drama", of course. |

I've seen a lot of anime in my day. Good anime, bad anime. There are many kinds. There are kinds that are considered bad by critical sources, but are golden. There are series considered golden by mainstream sources, but are utter crap. This is not unique to anime. Again, as Draco said, Sturgeon's Law. However, I watch anime because I see it as a great proving ground for media analysis, which is a major interest of mine (especially since I discovered TV Tropes, but it's something I'm interested in general). It grows out of a culture that is not my own, but it still delivers universal messages as well. I'm deeply interested in the culture, and that draws me too it. Why did I discover it? Toonami, of course. My first anime was Tenchi Muyo; or at least, that was the first anime that I recognised as such. As a younger child (even as early as 1st grade), I was exposed to Sailor Moon, and later to Pokémon, which would become a life-long passion of mine. But it was stumbling upon Cartoon Network's Toonami lineup, by searching for new and good shows for my lineups beyond Saturday Morning lineup (which was a very big thing for me as a child, starting with 5am and going until Noon), and discovering the first episode of Tenchi Muyo. I was surprised that such a thing was on a children's channel, and was a bit disturbed by Ryoko drawing the gems into herself, and the oddity of it was something unlike I had ever seen. So I continued to watch it. I eventually spread out. Toonami had a lot of great series - Big O, Outlaw Star, Rurouni Kenshin, Mobile Suit Gundam 08th MS Team, and numerous others. Dragonball Z (and later Dragonball) as well as Gundam Wing and later Mobile Suit Gundam (funny how both originals I watched later, as Toonami introduced them later) were my real gateways into anime, though I'll always call Tenchi Muyo my first anime, even if I saw Pokémon, Sailor Moon, and Yu-Gi-Oh! before it. Not to mention the great western series on Toonami - Beast Wars and ReBoot. Visiting and then joining my high school anime club exposed me to a number of series. AnimeCrave exposed me to even more. Since then, I've been studying them, trying to find the good from the bad. Mangafox and OneManga also helped in this regard. I read a lot of crap along the way. But I've found gems, and not just popular ones. And some popular ones that are regarded as crap I've found to be gold. So that's me and anime. I could go on a lot longer. |

I watch anime because it interests me, and also since the japanese have much looser restrictions based on what they can show, most anime have a slightly more awesome touch to them. .....also I enjoy some of them for being F**ked up as all hell....like Paprika, Higurashi, the list goes on. Also I watch it because sometimes the plots are awesomely original or have very awesome takes on things found elsewhere. case in point I give Eichiro Oda 10,000 awesome points for making Luffy have the most badass usage for stretching powers ever (mr Incredible eat your heart out!) |

So. Why do you watch musical theatre? It's all the same. You get people jumping at each other, you get the same (awful) bird cage, you get the same (clumsy) Estonian idea of massage table, and you get the same (stupid) humor about how the characters are robots, or how the characters accidentally look like robots. Competitive chess I can understand a little. You don't have to castigate through the ridiculous faux-orange, nor do you have to hear the suggestively quality voice acting (for both Esperanto and Dutch versions), and you get a much more bearable dosage of Farmville. ...But musical theatre? It's like rock music or something, only with less physical sausage. What's the appeal? ~~~ That was fun!

Looser.... that's a laugh. Japan is a lot TIGHTER on what they can show, If You Know What I Mean... By the way, my Mad Lib Solution: So. Why do you watch Anime? It's all the same. You get people F***ing at each other, you get the same (awful) Asparagus, you get the same (clumsy) Swazi idea of Hitler, and you get the same (stupid) humor about how the characters are Jews, or how the characters accidentally look like Jews. Novels I can understand a little. You don't have to Goopher through the ridiculous faux-Hinoa, nor do you have to hear the Madly quality voice acting (for both Weebo and Cymry versions), and you get a much more bearable dosage of masshole. ...But Anime? It's like Porno or something, only with less physical Washington. What's the appeal? By the way, Hinoa, I think the adverb was placed wrong. I don't think an adverb is appropriate there, based off Draco and my responses. |

And now, my version. Be warned, it gets... weird. So. Why do you watch toku? It's all the same. You get people dancing at each other, you get the same (awful) bear, you get the same (clumsy) Swiss idea of bank account, and you get the same (stupid) humor about how the characters are nuclear reactors, or how the characters accidentally look like nuclear reactors. Rock I can understand a little. You don't have to king through the ridiculous faux-verb, nor do you have to hear the transformationally quality voice acting (for both Klingon and Cherokee versions), and you get a much more bearable dosage of bad dubbing. ...But toku? It's like country "music" or something, only with less physical accordion. What's the appeal? EDIT: If you use an adjective there it goes much more smoothly. |

Haruhi is not an example of good artwork, and nothing I have been shown of the series will convince me otherwise. It's bland cell-shading and Uncanny Valley body drawings, particularly the faces. |
