Man, I really gotta say, I'm very disappointed in the music. All of it sounds like Wii music - bouncy, sometimes jazzy, and bland. Very little variation in instrumentation. A lot of the tunes seem positively butchered.

Especially Dragon's Den. Dragon's Den was raped, pillaged, plundered, and left bleeding on the sidewalk.

Agreed. The old dragons den theme was awesome, even if the sound quality was crap - but I suppose that was what gave it the eery quality, it sounds almost too complex in HG/SS.
I don't wanna listen to the other music though, hearing the 'remastered' versions should be part of the thrill of replaying.

I'm gonna get Soul Silver - what's everyone else think? Do you care which version you get, or are you gonna get the same one you got all those years ago? Nostalgia ftw.

Hmm, I seem to lean instinctively towards Soul Silver because its image is not sunny and bright and such (the exact reason I went with the original Silver). I far prefer "smooth" and "cool" if there's a choice between those anywhere.

For any pair of Pokemon RPGs, which version has which Pokemon is never a deciding factor in which version I buy.

That reminds me.
How many other people actually told Officer Jenny that your rival's name was '???' ?
It was too hard of a conundrum for a 7 year old to solve.

...Wait.
I was 7?
Holy crap.

Wheey! I've became a human being!! I am very handsam!

Oh man, I just lol'd so hard at this conversation.

In other news, I once saw a Pokemon PT Cruiser when Ruby and Sapphire were the latest games, but I don't remember it being designed like a Pokemon. It just had art painted on it and said "Pokemon Ruby and Sapphire."

Oh yeah, and I plan to get SoulSilver, because I have a friend who is going to get HeartGold. Normally I wouldn't care about reciprocating versions, but I need a Rayquaza and we can both get one this way.

I'd rather be outside.

Well, if everybody here is getting Silver, I'll get Gold.

But first I'll wait until I have a DS.

I'm getting Soul Silver for nostalgia, which works well for me because my brother's doing the same with Heart Gold.

Got Gold originally so I'm staying with Gold, since I preferred it to Silver in the original print.

Thanks Poui.

I'm likely to get Gold, as my friend is likely to get Silver, and we always get the opposite versions.

though, it seems pokemon IS losing its luster, unfortunately. I miss the old GBC tunes.

Erm... You ARE aware the G/S/C original-GBC-style music pieces are present in HG/SS alongside the modern-day remixes and you can switch between the two styles with an in-game option, right? I'd say it's hard to miss something that's still around! :P

There's an item you can get late in the game that changes all the music to the originals. It's probably why they tried to take a different angle on most of the remixed themes.

Well, for me, version choice is largely a non-issue as I have two siblings who both buy their own versions of the games as well, meaning one of them will undoubtedly buy Silver. Ergo, I'll be able to trade all the exclusives to me as much as I want. Though all I really want is a Vulpix.

That said, Pokemon has well and truly lost its shiny newness luster. This doesn't mean that it's completely dull now, though, because each generation and even game within a generation brings new features, alterations, and corrections. The universe of Pokemon is constantly evolving and improving on itself, and while most of us favor the older generations in various ways, playing them nowadays is an exercise in frustration given how many features they really lack. This was proven to me with the first generation remake of LeafGreen and FireRed, which retained all the awesomeness of the original series while adding a few extra new bits and updating the engine to third generation, making for an awesome experience.

Which is why I'm glad that HG and SS are coming out in the fourth generation. Assuming the flavour and design and plot of the originals remain largely intact, these will likely shape up to be the most indepth and well-designed Pokemon games we've ever seen. Perhaps some of the lustre is gone, but you cannot tell me that this isn't awesome.

I'm going to have lots of fun with this thing.

EDIT: Additionally the musical change feature is freaking sweet. I can't listen to the new remixes where I am, but no doubt I'll end up listening to them in context as the game goes along and then choose whether or not to swap over much much later.

Isn't Vulpix an exclusive to Silver though?
