Not really, you just had to get the Silver/Rainbow wing from the old man at Pewter city and then go to the respective dungeon <_< The sad thing is that said legendary was going to be level 70 and since I don't remember any way of relearning moves on G/S... it was pretty much to brag. |

Yeah, but in Crystal, you had to catch Suicune, Raikou and Entei, to get Ho-oh. As in catch them. The game doesn't let you get Ho-oh if you trade for them. |

Alright, more stuff: -You can trade with no restrictions as soon as you get the regular old Pokedex. You don't even have to wait until you beat the main game to transfer non-GSC pokes. However, I'll probably restrain myself for the sake of getting the original experience of the game. Also, I'll probably end up trading all this game's Pokemon to Diamond instead of the other way around, since I'll have more in that than I will in this. -If your front Pokemon which follows you around is shiny, it retains its shininess as it follows you. |

Now that last part was awesome. I am not interested in trading tho', at least not until I finish the main game. |

Here's all the new sprites of the Pokemon of the first 2 gens (As you probably guessed, not one of the sprites for the later-gen Pokemon is changed for HG/SS) |

Blaziken looks high. Bidoof looks like Pedobear. Wailmer looks too happy. And I'm not even gonna START on Scyther. So far, Wobuffet is the winner. I was really disappointed in the Diamond and Pearl games, I can't really explain why, but it just wasn't as fun as the previous games. The fact that pretty much every DS owner bought the game made it seem much less personal. There were tonnes of 12 year olds with the game who'd never even picked up the previous versions. I also thought the GTS ruined the game, making it much too easy to "Catch 'em all". There was no thrill in finally catching a rare or shiny pokemon, as all those annoying 12 year olds with the game had around five Arceus' each. And there were far too many legendary Pokemon on offer, they went waaaay overboard with them. With the amount I had, I could have easily made at least one and a half teams of them - it was just another thing to dull down the excitement of catching them. I even boycotted using legendaries, it's boring when every person who battle against has all the same Pokemon you have. I settled on self-trained, REAL rare pokemon. (EDIT: It looks like I can explain why.) But besides that, I think that Gold and Silver were by FAR the best games. The plot was good, the gameplay lasted forever, and there was that whole unown sidequest. (Or was that just in Crystal?) Anyway, I don't know if I like this game best because it was the first Pokemon game I got. Am I the one of the only ones who liked it so much? |

The only one I disagree with is Muk. The giant arm looks weird. :/ And I have to agree that Diamond, Pearl and Platinum went too overboard with legendaries. They could have saved Cresselia, Darkrai and Shaymin for the 5th generation. |

Generation 1: Five legends. Generation 2 had six. Generation 3 decided to dish out a whole ten new legends to the mix. Generation 4 went completely overboard by giving us FOURTEEN legends. |

Erm, it's not like legendary Pokemon are these ultra-important-and-all-powerful one-of-a-kind entities through and through. A legendary, by definition, is just a particularly strong and spectacular specie to which the mankind of the fictional Pokemon universe attached creation stories and myths (and note that they've attached similar, lesser myths to plenty of common Pokemon as well). For that reason alone I wouldn't have any problem with it at all if a theoretical fifth generation introduced about 20 more legendaries, but that's just me. :/ BTW, it's very strongly hinted that any creation myths attached to legendaries such as Arceus, the Dragon Trio, the Lake Trio, the Hoenn Weather Trio, etc. are really just myths and legends not to be taken at face value, since those myths sort of feel like they require these legendaries to be one-of-a-kind to begin with. But legendaries are never one-of-a-kind. The fact you can have lots of Arceuses in your collection for example, the fact in the Shinto Ruins event of HG/SS Cynthia tells you that you can only bring "one Arceus" for the event, and the fact that an Arceus with the help of the Unown can create Dialga, Palkia, and Giratina individuals from scratch even though myth paints those three as one-of-a-kind primordial rulers of space/time, all seem to strongly indicate that these are merely greater species rather than, you know, actual gods. The human characters in-universe lead themselves to strongly believe them to be primordial forces, though. I guess my point is that it's probably not worth holding legendaries in general to be so sacred. Anyway, Moose: While I can't be sure, I would suspect that one of the reasons D/P wasn't as entertaining as it could have been was because it had physically slow battles; Platinum, in fact, sped up the battles to be less draggy and more responsive (It no longer takes an entire half second between selecting a move and seeing it go on screen, or for the game to register and report when Intimidate lowers a Pokemon's attack, etc.), which definitely made a big difference in its enjoyability. Hopefully that's gonna be retained in HG/SS. |

Moose, I don't see how more people getting the game makes it less fun at all; if anything, that makes it more fun because you have a near-limitless set of people to play with. And if that makes it less personal, you could always just play by yourself and not use Wi-Fi. What exactly is wrong with 12 year olds buying the game? Surely it shows that the Pokemon franchise is still strong if today's twelve year olds are just as willing to get the game as our generation was. Your complaint about the GTS should really be directed toward the hacking community instead. Since they can give anyone whatever Pokemon they want, the "market" has become oversaturated with what were once considered "rare" Pokemon. I think the GTS was a wonderful addition to the game; without it, I would never have gotten a Magmortar/Electivire/any other Pokemon that requires trading evolution (besides the ones I managed to get in FR/LG), nor would I have any of the Pearl-exclusives, because I don't know anyone nearby that has the game. And as for legendaries, Erik said much of what I could say but also, aren't most legendaries forbidden from use in random Wi-Fi battles? Not just because people consider them ubers, but because the game won't let you? And as for your last question, there is a decent number of people who consider GSC to be the best generation. A lot of them are the people who decided that They Changed It Now It Sucks when the third generation came out. |

Ah, now about that: This is what makes the concept of catching Mewtwo much more of a stretch of my willing suspension of disbelief than the concept of catching Arceus. How is it that the one individual super-clone scientists created long ago can exist in so many places and collections at the same time? That should cause the reality to implode! (All the badness of that would instantly disappear if the Pokedex or some other in-game information source explained that it eventually mastered a sort of self-replicating fission process like a virus, or if Team Rocket or some other unknown group eventually took the original's DNA to perform a Mewtwo breeding program and let the clone-clones out into the world or something.) At least with Arceus, it's still possible that many of that super-specie exist amongst the stars, which at least physically allows each master kid trainer to have one or two of his own. :/ NEWS: Interestingly enough, Platinum's battle frontier reappears in HG/SS completely identical; same facilities, same rules, same prizes, and same frontier brains. Hmm, how does that work... |
