Like the title says. I give it even odds of it being Gold/Silver DS. Hell, it's hard not to think that, but it *could* also be, say, a new console game. Thoughts, anyone? |

Enthusiastic, aren't we? ^_^ Yes, I was most certainly humored when I saw that bit reported on the fansites. I've actually considered the anticipated Gold and Silver remakes to be an outright guarantee for a long while now, for a reason that isn't even included on most people's list of "evidence" that there'll be future DS remakes. My reason is that there's still a long while to go before any fifth generation previews show up (I think each generation lasts longer than the one before it), so G/S DS would HAVE to be made in the meantime. While it's likely this "major game reveal" business is about that, I'd say that even if it's not, G/S remakes can be expected to be announced sometime afterwards. ![]() ----- BTW, I've looked at other people's "evidence" of future Gold Silver remakes that they had come up with within the past years. This is pretty much what they're saying: * The upcoming 12th movie in Japan features, interestingly enough, the three Johto starters alongside a Pichu. The movies and anime are pretty much Poke-product placement to begin with, so... * In D/P/Pt, there's "Received Pokemon from Johto" information programmed, the same way there's "Received Pokemon from Hoenn" information for Pokemon you migrate from R/S/E through Pal Park. That had to be programmed with the future in mind. * Most 2nd Generation Pokemon have not had their official Sugimori artwork updated in Sugimori's "modern" illustration style, unlike all the Pokemon before and since. It's probably being saved for the remakes that feature them "officially". *Among the game names Nintendo "reserved" through copyright are names like "DuskGold" and "DawnSilver." Clearly these two in particular are relevant to the topic. *During the Shaymin event in D/P/Pt, there's this big white rock you inspect, and Professor Oak says that a similar rock was discovered in Kanto. Nothing like that appears in FireRed and LeafGreen, but maybe they referred to a big white rock because this other one's going to appear in G/S? *The fact Entei, Suicune, and Raikou are the only trio not capturable in the 4th gen, Platinum included. Crash wondered why they weren't roaming legendaries in Platinum but Articuno, Zapdos, and Moltres were; perhaps it's because they are reserved for the remakes? =P *There's even evidence in the TCG, where 2nd-gen Pokemon not related to 4th-gen evos and pre-evos haven't appeared at ALL in the last couple years, as if they're being saved for TCG sets representing Gold/Silver remakes. Pokemon products like the TCG give general clues as to the direction the overall franchise heads, according to those analyzing everything. Make of all that what you will. |

I certainly hope its G/S remakes. I've been waiting for them since the battery on my Gold cartridge went out. |

That doesn't prove it's going to be GSDS. I really want it to be as much as you lot, but I'd rather not have false hopes (see FFX Yevon) |

I had to spend a lot of time considering everything about how it could possibly not be GSDS before making that post, yeah. Ultimately, it all comes down to asking oneself this: If it weren't GSDS, what else could possibly be referred to by a Pokemon-advertising show's announcement of a "major" product, specifically specified to be within the video game branch of Pokemon, where the cast points out a pair of opening party balls that are colored gold and silver? ...A wii title set in Johto or something? That really doesn't feel possible IMO, considering that it was also apparently stated by an official source in some form that the reason this game counts as "major" is because it was something that had a lot of discussion about it amongst the Pokemon community. Guess it'll have to be another whole week before all that's cleared up, though... Also, I want to revel in the fact that I'm able to say "GS for DS is confirmed!!!" while I can. (See Golden Sun. =P) |

I've been expecting this for a while now. Anticipation of G/S remakes is why I didn't get Platinum >_> I'm already planning out my party, and wondering if it would be possible to breed it as early as possible in the storyline, EV train it, and then continue on my merry way... Sceptile Flygon Skarmory Slowking Houndoom Heracross That's what I'm thinking now, anyway. |

A Gold and Silver remake would be awesome, and I'd buy it, but seeing how you can catch the pokemon of that generation all in Ruby/Sapphire, FireRed/LeafGreen and Diamond/Pearl, I have to question whether GameFreak will see reason enough to do it. We can already complete our pokedex, after all. I suspect it may be another spin-off. |

Kind of point I was trying to make. See, they don't think like we do. We really want this game, they go "Nah... There's no point. There's nothing we can do to make it different." |

Then again, with the DSi upcoming, GameFreak might want to move away from requiring the 3G carts to Catch 'Em All™. But maybe not. Who knows? |

If it's a purist remake of the 2nd gen games, I may be tempted to buy it. >_> |

That seems overly pessimistic because, well sure almost all the 2nd gen Pokemon are technically catchable in various places throughout R/S/E, FR/LG, Colosseum, Gale of Darkness, and D/P/Pt, but that causes some rather large portions of the 2nd gen Pokemon to be really hard to get and require either your or your friends' ownership of a lot of those older games to be able to efficiently amass those. Especially the legendary beasts, which can now be made far easier to get, and thus more relevant to a modern audience, if they become three roaming legendaries together again in new G/S DS versions. And Lugia and Ho-Oh had been treated as Event Legendaries like Mew and Celebi since the 3rd generation started, until you could get one of each at the end of each of the GameCube spinoffs. Even so, they're still not available in the mainstream of Pokemon gameplay, so... It's extremely liekly Game Freak could - and would - justify G/S DS remakes on making new availability for Lugia and Ho-Oh alone. :ph43r: The reason I think Game Freak bases new version releases on promoting legendaries through making them newly available to catch is because, well, that's what they've done in the past, even going so far as to give their select promoted 4th gen legendaries for Platinum new alternative formes (some of which even require events to access) the same way each of FireRed, LeafGreen, and Emerald introduced a new forme of Deoxys. I wouldn't be surprised, honestly, if making it "different" like Kuroi suggests turns out to be Game Freak's least priority in their making G/S remakes, their main priority and focus instead being on re-promoting the G/S/C legendaries. :/ |

I'd like the remake to have some differences from the originals, such as actually having the Vridian Forest and the Safari Zone. Iy would also be nice to learn where Giovanni went, somehow, and they hinted at the rival being his son in FR/LG, so maybe they will go into that more. Kanto 3 years later was pretty depressing. It just wasn't right how the Pokémon Tower was replaced with the Radio Tower. How disrespectful to the dead... so, I'd like to at least see the VF and Safari Zone. It is known that the Safari Zone was going to be in G/S but it was probably cancelled due to lack of space. Maybe that's why Viridian Forest wasn't accessible either. |

Yeah there's definitely a lot of potential for all-new content in addition to all the stuff that was already introduced in D/P/Pt to be added to Johto to significantly spice and buff it up for the modern era. Frankly, G/S DS remakes have the potential to really tie the overall franchise together both thematically and gameplaywise, and they would make an awesome crescendo for the overall current generation of games and media. I wonder if they'd be able to implement the apricorn system and GS' collection of specialty Poke Balls... And as for berries, GS' old system would most likely be replaced with the current system of watering and fertilizing. |

The G/S generation were, in my opinion the best pokemon games of all time. Though R/S might be my personal favourite, the sheer size and amount of new, really good gameplay elements just made G/S unbeatable in terms of quality, imo. Those games with even more content would just be amazing. Hell, I might be happy to never have another pokemon game again afterwards. |
