WHY have I never heard of this?

That's effin' amazing! I mean, holy shit. >.> It makes FFIV actually look playable. 3D polygons, even like that, are infinitely better than sprites. I mean, holly shit.

This may be enough for me to buy a DS.

And it's apparently OUT ALREADY, what.

Yeah, I just found out about it now because the character thing for Rydia in today's gamefaqs character battle was in 3D. And I was like... whaaat.

Maaan the opening scene is gorgeous. Whaaat. Like, the PS2 couldn't make graphics that good (well, it could, but to see that on a handheld... whaaaat).

It's like FFVII style polygons. xD Which is totally awesome.

... man, I may have to finally buy a DS...

Also, ramped up difficulty, what. Whaaaat.

*needs to play this*

Giraffes are adorable.

You make it sound like you are biased against 2d with the "now it looks playable" and all.

You kids and your beautiful grafix and stuff. In my days we cared that the game was good and not broken, not your "stories" and your "cutscenes" and how "realistic" the game looks.

If only a game developer would make a new game 8 bit, it will show you all. Oh wait. Don't look at me that way Diamond Man, I didn't forget you.

Jewel Man: I'm Jewel Man you forgetful ol' fogey!

I certainly hope Satty isn't biased against 2-d games. If not, fool for him for not playing great games like Wario Land, Mischief Makers and Sonic.

...Yeah, they're all platformers. SO WHAT.

Well, I understand that gameplay-wise, there's nothing wrong with a 2D game. But especially crucial with an RPG, unfortunately, I think is the graphics. It's harder to get into the story and relate to the characters if they just look like little blocks, and it's likewise harder to dig the environments if they're pasted on trees or whatever. It doesn't have to be out-and-out graphics pr0n, I mean, FFVII was blocky as hell and still engaging (but AC was so much more awesome for that). >_>

There's just a huge barrier, I think, between two-d games and 3-d ones - Golden Sun's probably the best game to use sprites and such, but still convey an amazing atmosphere and get you to like the characters - but again, it would be so much better in full 3-d. =/ With voice-acting.

Let the kids enjoy their pretty 3-d grafix.

Good thing I was born and raised by 8 bit and grew up in all the vg generations afterward. I can easily adapt to any art style, any amount of bits is good to me as long as it is a genre I like and the game is playable and not broken.

You are missing out on TWEWY and Chrono Trigger if you don't want to play 2d rpgs. You are also not going to be willing to try out the now translated Mother 3 either.

TWEWY, though it is 2d, had more believable characters then all the pretty 3d rpgs the played. Even Kingdom Hearts. 3D RPGs are usually too slow for me.

Never once browsed through the "what are you playing now" topic and saw me referencing 'FFIV DS' for awhile back in august? :P

Nah Chrono, I never read that topic. xD

Kairi, I've played my fair share of two-d RPGs. >_> Hell, the first one I ever played was Dragon Warrior for the NES, which was the first or second RPG, period. And I've played FFI, 2, 4, 5, and 6, all of which are 2d, Pokemons, DWM: 2. I've tried playing Chrono Trigger, but it just can't hold my interest (that may change since Delf gave me a *cough* of it, but yeah - Ditto Earthbound).

Most believable/complex/well-drawn characters... well, I'd have to say that's either FFVII or FFX, although FFIX is enjoyable, as well. =3
I have heard good things about TWEWY, though. It's not like I hate 2-d, I just prefer 3-d more. xD

Satty doesn't read my topics...

Anyways, if we talk about 2D good games, there are far too many to mention.

It is indeed right that the graphics make the difference, but a good history is good no matter how the characters look like (that is, if they are recognizable)

Adachi is not amused.

FF4 looks better than it ever has. That's because the 2D was average. Not *because* it was 2D, but because *the* 2D itself was average. It was made early on in the SNES' history and the graphics level hadn't been amped up all that much. It wasn't until FF6 and Chrono Trigger that Square really made some nice sprite work.

This remake, though, has reasonably nice 3D that suits the game well. The voices aren't bad, the gameplay is classic, the difficulty has been notched up slightly... I have the remake and it is a very good game. Comes recommended even to FF4 veterans.
