Woah, Jigglypuff's considered bottom-tier now? MADNESS! Also, ROB being top-tier is awesome. |

CAPTAIN FALCON AND SONIC AT BOTTOM!?!? META-KNIGHT, DEDEDE, AND ROB ON TOP!? This is a very surprising list... I would've guessed Meta Knight to be bottom tier because he doesn't really have any attacks with high knockback, and Dedede to be as low as Ganondorf for being the same sort of slow heavyweight. Captain Falcon on the other hand seems to be a sort of speed-and-power character that previous Smash games favored, and I'd figured Sonic as the speediest character would be higher up on the list. And yea for Lucario being right up there with Marth (another shocker).

I'm not so sure about D3 up there... but the others I can certainly agree with. Especially since three of the chars I use are Top :D. |

Meta Knight has that devastating Up-B and his smashes have good knockback too. |

"Devastating"? His up-B and his smash attacks never seemed all that strong to me compared to other chars' attacks... And I always thought it was a disadvantage how the Up-B forces you into a glide. But apparently that's good in the meta-game environment... Perhaps I should find a video on how to use the attack "professionally". |

Actually, I'm really not surprised about DeDeDe being top-tier. I've played against someone who's good with him, and he completely mopped the floor with me. I think that the speedier characters being lower-tier probably has something to do with the random aspects of the game. I mean, the fast characters who rely on motion are going to be worse off if they trip than a slow, powerful character, right? I guess the random factor screwed the speedsters over. |

Ness and Lucas don't surprise me, and neither do most of the other low-tier picks like Pokemon Trainer and Jigglypuff (Jiggly's Down-B has frankly been rendered unusable from Melee >.>)... It's a delicious irony that Zelda is now well above Sheik. ![]() Wario being so special is surprising, though. Another thing that makes me wonder is how the heck did Falco remain in the top tier while Fox drastically dropped down to right below Wolf?

Bah, I trust no tier list, nor do I condone tier lists. Making a "list of tiers" just sounds incredibly unfun to me. And yes, I realize that the people who made this list think differently about the entire idea of a tier list than I do, but... honestly, in my opinion, why tier up over Brawl? |

I find delicious irony in that Zelda is higher than Shiek. Metaknight is a freaking devastating character when used effectively, and has been consistently seen in the top brackets of tournaments, with relative unknowns using him to amazing effect. King Dedede... I love the character to pieces but I'm not good with him. I found him tricky to use. All that changed when my friend showed me how good he was with him. I think that in the end, match for match, we were pretty much even in wins. Dedede is really quite good if you know what you're doing. Also, having decided that I would get good with Diddy Kong, I've seen what he can do. He's really quite good, and I now expect to see him that high. Fun character. Umm, what else... Ness and Lucas, bottom tier? That's a load of junk. Likewise with PT, though I guess the fact that you have to master three characters will make the pros head explode. ROB... I just don't understand ROB as a character enough to make a judgement. And Samus is far too low. ZSS is where she belongs, but normal Samus is better than that... Pikachu needs to be lower on that list... and of the Star Fox characters, I agree, Falco is the best and should be right at the top. His stats and moveset are the most effective of the three, even though in terms of fun he's kinda lacking behind Wolf. Finally... Ike, in middle tier? Well, okay, I'll give him that. But I'm still good with him. Okay! That's just my thoughts on that list. However, I don't condone it, and won't listen to it. I'll play the characters I like that are fun, with my items on and my stages hazardous and tricky, with four players and lots of laughter. That's how Brawl should be played, none of this tournament no items Final Destination crap. Did you know that fighters and pros of other fighting games actually really enjoy Smash Bros, because it's so different from all of their games? They play it to unwind, to have fun with items and four player-ness when they don't want to beat the crap out of each other in one-on-ones like Street Fighter and Soul Calibur. Take that, Smashboards! |

It's all Ivysaur's fault I tell ya. Seriously I do not care. I watched videos of Chu dat's Pichu beating up some other high ranking tourney's player who uses Shiek. And PT at low tier is great. So you all underestimate him. That's very good. Touney players shy from him because of the 3 characters in one thing which is mandatory. So of course he won't get as great of a rating as he is very risky to use in tournaments. At home when I play matches versus you all I am not competing for money or the entrance fee I paid off not to loss money at an early stage. I knew from the beginning he would be low. Remember that the wifi environment is different from local multiplayer. Pikachu may be high but I have a hell of a difficult time pulling off the redirected up B for recovery in wifi matches so I use him much less. I play as who I want to play. I first saw Diddy and PT while I was in Israel and my heart pumped that such unique characters are gonna be playable. And I stick with them no matter the tier list. As the intoductory paragraph said these gamers are a lot different than we are. We also use items and banned stages in our matches. I also use Diddy and Pit because I like the characters. I'm currently playing Kid Icarus to enjoy playing as Pit even more. You shouldn't select characters just because of tier placing. Erik can't seem to handle Meta Knight for instance. If you can play them well, good for you. In before "Tiers r 4 queers". (Wow, some of you act like I would bitch and moan about PT's placing. Just makes me happier when I beat you with him and I don't moan when a low tier character lost the match.) Remember, this is a game. Most of you aren't playing for prize money. Relax and keep on enjoying the characters you are playing as. There is no loss if you lose (if not competing for money). |

Wow, Link dropped like a rock. And Zamus rose like a rocket. Kirby ftw. I should play him more. He was my favourite character (not my main, I have no main) out of all of them, probably because my first platformer was a Kirby game. Oh and Ness and Lucas are down there for precisely one reason guys: Deathgrab. Well that and you can gimp their recovery by running into the PK thunder/toadstooling them since they sit there nice and immobilized while doing it. inafter 'Tiers don exits' |

Lots of great points by Delf and KP. =) Cross-posted from SmashWiki's article about tiers: "A tier list is a ranking of each character's metagame, based on tournament settings. It is an indicator of how each character is expected to perform, under tournament settings, in relation to the rest of the cast. Thus, tiers measure the potential of each character based on all currently known techniques and strategies that have been shown to be useful in tournaments. Tier lists are common in fighting games as well as many other competitive games involving a large selection of characters. The tier list does not say anything about any single matchup. For example, if two players are equally matched in skill, and one uses Fox and the other uses Pichu, the tier list alone can not be used to predict the outcome of the match accurately. This is because the tier list looks at a character's overall potential and effectiveness, and individual matchups can be soft or hard counters that affect but do not entirely determine a character's ranking." "The unanimous consensus of competitive players is that tiers do exist. They argue that it would be almost impossible to balance a game of unlike characters; without specific redesign, characters would have the tendency to fall into tiers by dint of their myriad variables (differing attack power, running speed, etc.). Furthermore, the developers cannot foresee top-level strategies, and thus even their deliberate efforts could fail to balance the game at a professional level. Years of empirical results support this conclusion as well; national tournament-winners of Melee almost always use Marth, Fox, Falco and Sheik." "Tiers exist at all levels of play, though the rankings are highly changed from casual play to competitive play, due to different strategies and a different metagame from the tournament level." 'Tis interesting, no? And CI, I thought it went "Tires don exits". XD |

Well, it's obvious that Metaknight and Dedede were going to be a little higher. After all, they're the lovechildren of Sakurai. The fact that Kirby isn't top tier as well is the only thing making a lot of people scream at him for favortism, but even Kirby got But yeah. Tiers are silly, let's just play the game and have fun, amirite? |
