In theory, consoles have grown rampantly more and more popular as the years go by. I say in theory because sales would tell you this isn't true, the highest selling console ever is the original Game Boy as far as I'm informed, but I digress. Consoles have grown more mainstream and more popular as time as gone on. With three big names on the market at any given time there's certainly plenty to go around. But what about PCs? I've heard it said more and more and more that PC gaming is dying out, and soon there'll be nothing left save for tiny communities and MMO players. What are your thoughts on this? My own thoughts after somebody else posts. |

PC gaming, though still fighting for survival, has now succumbed to the trend of console gaming. |

What exactly are the trends set by the console games, GoV? And why exactly does PC Gaming rule, dark? This is precisely what I'm trying to figure out. Just because somebody says it rules, doesn't mean it rules. They have to back it up with intelligent discourse. |

I meant that the trend nowadays is console gaming. It's quite hard to find high-quality PC games with a good storyline nowadays. |

PC gaming isn't so much dying out, It's just going into recession as more people don't want to be seen/known to spend their time on a computer. However going on a console in front of the T.V is now classed as a totally different thing compared to sitting in front of a computer screen. Also less games are being produced for the PC because as soon as the game is released it's available for illegal download on the internet. The fact that you can now download PC games off the internet is pushing game producers away from PC games untill they can develop a CD which cannot be cracked/ripped etc. Thats just my opinion and based on the popular views in my school. |

I don't think that it will die because most mmo games are far too complex to be played on a console anyway. That plus people always want something to do on their computers at work. |

One reason PC gaming is dying down is due to the need of a constant upgrade. "Want a new computer game? Oh-no~! Not with THAT processor! When is that from, 2006?" |

PC gaming is, admittedly, dying out, but it's never REALLY gonna die. There's always gonna be mods and customizations for games on PC, and those willing to spend money on parts for PC gaming(which isn't really that expensive; the only video card you really need for the next five or so years only costs around $100) will be rewarded. However, Logo's right. Sitting in front of a computer is now heavily implies that the person is a nerd or a geek. So, many people tend to stay away from PC gaming just because of that. Now, I myself, play most of my games on my computer, because I only have two games for my Wii(Brawl and Guilty Gear), and because I can really get into the customization of many of my PC games. For games like Counter Strike, you can't really make a zombie mod game on a console. On PCs, you can, and it's fun as hell. Skins, custom game settings, and other stuff can keep you entertained when you're finished with the 'official' stuff. Another thing about PC gaming is that the only multiplayer action on the internet, unlike console games like Brawl, which you can invite friends over to play and kick their asses. So, playing PC games also implies you have no social life. That some reasons why PC gaming is dying out. |

It is declining, but not actually dying. If it does... I´ll always remember Fallout, Blade Runner, and Tomb Raider. They were awesome PC games. |

It's declining yes, but I don't think it'll actually die out. Personally, I believe that PC gaming is becoming less popular because of the qualitly of the console gaming. Admittedly it will never be as good as PC gamne, but it's improving. This will probably add to the amount of people who avoid PC gaming for it's nerdy connotations. As now they actually have a reasonably quality alternitive. Well, these are my thoughts on the matter. |

Until mods are as easily available for games on console as they are for PC, I don't think it will ever truly die. I mean, Oblivion kicks copious amounts of ass with mods. Copious. |

What HJ said. And the funny thing about the multiplayer aspect is that, for the most part, most people don't actually use it. The vast majority of people who play multiplayer on an Xbox 360 do so on Live, over the internet. Even those who have friends locally tend to do so from the comfort of their own home. And then it has all the perils of anonymity that the internet does... have you ever played Halo 3 with a headset on? I still find blood in there sometimes, my god... Anyway. Thanks for joining the discussion. I too feel that PC Gaming won't die out, but it is declining somewhat. However, there are only five games that I truly want to buy at the moment. Those are: Wrath of the Lich King, Fallout 3, Starcraft 2, Diablo 3, and Persona 4. If you'll look carefully, four of those are PC games, and three of them are Blizzard games. At least one of us isn't going to give it up anytime soon. |

I agree with Bane. The thing with PC games is, you need to have all these amzing features in order to play the games, and you're restricted by the hard disk space on your computer, etc. With consoles, however, the games are made specifically to be compatible with the system. One system, and you're set in terms of gaming for a while. With PCs you have to constantly upgrade to keep up. |

Of course, companies upgrade their consoles. The new effing PSP has double the RAM of the old ones. Meaning, the new ones are superior. If I remember correctly, they're also cheaper. The people who buy stuff at release are screwed. Guess when I bought my PSP? |

Plus, most PC games are on other systems, and they usually are better. People still love mmorpgs though and until their's an mmorpg on a console PC gaming will live! |

JakeDelfeir, naturally. I don't play too often, only when a friend or two is interested, but I usually have Steam open when on my gaming PC so you can easily just rock up and say "LET'S KILL US SOME SPIES" and I'll be like "AWWWW YEAH!" Ladies and gentlemen, this is why PC gaming isn't dead. Because it's easy to multitask and it's conveniently easy to organise games around the world. |
