I've recently begun playing Starcraft again with Delfeir. We're always open to having more players, so I thought I'd send an invite to the members of this board to play on Battle.net with us.

If anybody would like to join us, just let me know here and we'll work something out. :) We play mostly Melee games, but we can work a few UMS in there if that is a preferred choice.

Also...I suppose this thread can be used to discuss Starcraft? I used the search to see if anything had been mentioned before about Starcraft, but didn't bring up anything.

EDIT: Just found a few topics of Starcraft while scrolling through. Anyhow, I suppose this can still be used to discuss Starcraft if anybody wishes. :)

Anyway, as Joker said, we've taken to playing it on Battle.Net again... though him more than I, since I've been feeling pretty out of sorts lately. Always happy to have more players.

I still want to see a proper introduction/gameplay video for the Zerg in the vein of the other two races and Diablo 3, with the voiceover explaining all the changes and points. I've inferred pretty much everything that I can from the other videos but I still like having that available to me.

I'd like one as well. I'm getting a good feel of what the Protoss and Terran are about, but I'm still a little in the gray about the Zerg. We need one of those videos.

Also a bio on Kerrigan.

There's also the single player to consider. The single player mode for the Terrans just looks sweet, the kind of RTS style that I really like. However, Blizzard also said that each race would have a different style campaign from each other, meaning the approach we saw with the Terrans will be individual. So how will they handle the differences for Protoss and Zerg? How would you upgrade those guys, or approach their missions? I'm looking forward to seeing what they cook up.

You know what else we need? More love for Fenix. I mean, we know he's dead (twice) and he's not likely coming back, although Blizzard has a knack for bringing dudes back... but he's shown no recognition in the history. I totally want him mentioned, he was important.

I keep telling myself I'll be happy if he shows up in the Map editor at the very least.

A mention would be great as well. That's the moment when Raynor promised he'd be the one to kill Kerrigan, so I don't see why it shouldn't be brought up.

The Map Editor is supposed to allow for stat tweaking of individual units as well as hero creation. So if he doesn't show up I'm going to damn well make him show up. But surely he'll be mentioned in the plot, especially in the Terran campaign. I mean, I'm sure Raynor hasn't been drinking enough to wipe out his memories of Fenix.

Then again, this is the man who got so bored of sitting in a bar that he built the bar *on his ship*. So maybe he has...

I'm certain you could find a copy of it online somewhere. :) The only problem would be finding a good CD key.

Hmm, yeah, but I'd like to hear his voice when I click on the unit, as well as have his unique icon, so it wouldn't be the same. Still, I suppose it's better than nothing.

Anyway, they were good friends. I don't think Raynor would forget him. Here's hoping he hasn't.

Damn, I need to play more StarCraft...

Never even beat the Terra campaign. I'm ashamed of myself.

For the record, Bane, the most I could ever achieve in the campaigns of StarCraft was up to Terran mission 8, Zerg mission 3, and Protoss mission 2. Many months later was when I learned of invincibility and resource and super-speed cheats, which is when I then progressed through the rest of the game. :D

Played through all of Brood War with invincibility on too.

And through LOADS of effort and research, the only way I still can win in a 1-on-1 battle against a CPU in a custom map is with either a Zergling rush or a Zealot rush. 8D

Anyway, I've never been on Battle.net before... I wonder what that's like.

Oh no, I could get further. I was only on, like, the 4th or so mission. I just stopped playing for a while, due to some varying circumstance, and never got back to plying until all my saves had been somehow erased.

It's pretty pathetic, really.

I've recently been playing through the campaign missions in an attempt to beat them all without cheating. I think I'm on the last two missions for the expansion, which would complete the game for me. It's interesting after playing with cheats for so long.

Battle.net is where the real experience of Starcraft is. If you haven't tried it out, then there's quite a lot you're missing. Use Map Settings maps alone make up 50% of the experience of Starcraft, in my opinion. :)

Anyway, if anybody is willing to play, just let us know. We play team games a lot so even if you're not a great player, we can help you out.

Oh blimey, people are ALWAYS saying about how the online components of computer games like Blizzard games that have offline components are where their "real experiences" are. >_>

All of those game's offline material has been good enough for me this past decade...

^Dude, if you have Warcraft 3, go online and get a Defense of the Ancients map. Don't care what version, just get one. It's one of the most epic things ever.

Seriously, Map Settings is almost the only reason I have fun in Warcraft/Starcraft anymore. Seriously. I'll give some examples:

In one Starcraft game, you constantly spawned units, and the objective was to hold a point in the middle of the map. If you held it enough, stronger units will spawn. First to hold the middle for 10 minutes win. Or, you had to keep a bunker alive, and units constantly spawned around it. Last man standing wins.

In a Warcraft game, you got a ship with which you could go around the map, which was 80% water, and kill other ships. I dunno the objective, as all I did was go around killing and upgrading, but it was fun. :D

...I need to get Warcraft 3 again. >_>

That's the kinds of maps which keep the gameplay interesting for me. I'm fond of one Terran Defence mission, where there's two Terran players in the centre with a small base each and near limitless resources. There are six Zerg players around and they send constant waves of guys at you. You win by getting to and destroying the Cerebrate in each corner of the map, which means four of them, and then that brood would be out of the game.

Of course, it was never that easy... destroying one Zerg makes the others fight harder. I've yet to finish it but it was great great great great great fun.

That said, the offline components continue to keep me happy. Diablo in particular, but all the RTS campaigns I continuously come back to.

I spent a lot of my time on Starcraft creating maps. Once you learn the triggers, there are so many endless possibilities. It's mind boggling to think that the SC2 map editor will be far, far better (I hope, anyway). I wouldn't know what type of map to make first, there are just too many ideas.

I remember your Insanity Redux map. I totally wanted to see that finished since the whole Eternal Darkness idea was just so ridiculously awesome. I don't doubt that you'd be able to come up with some great stuff.

Hell, I even want to go and make a campaign or something myself. It'd be a blast to make.

Did I ever tell you that I finished it? It's completely playable now. Sometime when we get a big group of people we should play.

We should be playing sometime tonight. Around 6 hours from this post. Delfeir may or may not join us, depending on whether or not he goes to see The Dark Knight.
