Okay. As you all know, I am a Nintendo person. I luv teh Nintendo. However, a friend of mine told to me to get a PS3, as he wants to play online with me. In reality, the PS3 is the last of the consoles for this generation I would buy, if only due to the cost. But, I told him I'd think about it. I don't work, so in order to get the money, I would have to sell stuff. Including my PS2. Here's the deal. If I were to decide to sell my PS2 to buy a PS3, I would HAVE to be able to play my old games, such as Final Fantasy, Kingdom Hearts, DGZ Budokai, a couple of Simpsons games, Guitar Hero, Star Wars, Ratchet and Clank...You get the idea. So obviously, I need backwards compatibility. But according to this same friend, the backwards compatible PS3s don't go online. I told him he was full of it. Nevertheless, I need to check it out. The whole reason I'm considering this is because he wanted to play online. So, I would like to hear from you folks. I'm looking online to see all this stuff, but it's easier to just out and ask questions, you know? I need to know which version is backwards compatible, (I assume the 80gb version) and if the same version goes online. Plus, I think I'll have a couple more questions later. This is a pretty big post for such a small question. |

Simple response: I don't know. To be honest, the PS3 doesn't have any games I'm interested in right now, so I haven't looked into it that much. |

Me neither. Thus, the question. However, if I can sell my PS2 and still play the old games, it's a decent upgrade. |

I don't have a PS3 and don't know anybody who has one and makes use of backwards compatibility (they all either don't have PS2 games or still have their PS2). Thus, can't answer. My advice would be to ask at a video game store, they'll probably have an idea. |

You can try and check the Wiki for the PS3 to see which versions support backwards. |

I'm the only one here with a PS3. That makes me the expert here: Out of the two versions available, the 80gb PS3 supports backwards compatability, while the 40gb does not. But here's the problem: As far as I know, there is NO WAY to transfer saved games from your PS2 to the PS3, meaning you'd have to start all your games over. I'm still looking for a solution to that. |

My aforementioned friend mentioned something about using a jump drive, but I think I've tried that before. Nevertheless, it's worth looking in to. |
