Would anyone be interested in a Brawl tournament over wifi? I'm thinking either eight or sixteen players in a single-elimination bracket. If people are interested, we could hash out some rules and put something together. I think it would be fun. ^_^

You'd better whip up something by tomorrow, because I'm gone on Friday. (From Brawl, not the internetz) |

Sadly I am competition shy. But anyway why don't we wait for our European pals to obtain Brawl? We get more folks that way. |

27th I think. Anyway, good luck actually doing this. Some of us complain of frame rate lag/Button lag. And there will be blaming of said stuff all over if this tourney exists. And I am a scaredy cat too. |

I get the game on the 26th at this stage. Which means this would best be aimed for an early July occurrence. Unless you guys play a tourney first, then give us some time, then have another one with us Euros/Aussies included. Because we'll need time to get used to the game. After all, I've only played it twice and wasn't kicking ass at my usual extremely high level. |

Would you like a referee? Someone joins the Brawl, suicides all the stocks but then watches the other two players and is a witness for the winner. Also items? Hazardous stages? |

A referee might be a good idea because people possibly complaining about lag. For stages, I would say, let's say anything goes except custom stages, or we could limit it to all the stages available when you first start the game. As for items, I'm tempted to say anything goes, but are there any items that would make it kinda hard to really be a contest of skill and not item luck? Or do we want to just turn item frequency on low (assuming you can do that in Brawl)?

Real men use items. *Kraden-nod* Even if I won't be in the first one, I say put most items on (feel free to exclude a handful, I personally don't use Food and Hearts in Melee, though Tomatos are okay) at Medium or Low. And all stages should be good. This should be a fun tourney, not a 'zomg my epenis is bigger' tourney. |

Let me know when we do this, I'd like to get in on it. As for rules, it doesn't have to be this way but I'm participating in a Brawl tourney on another forum later this month and the matches are 3 stock but on a 2 minute 30 second timer so that we can save the replay. The matches are all played on Final Destination or Battlefield and the only items are Smash Balls, except for the final match which will have no items. Other stages may be played and other item variations may be used if both players agree before the match. Like I said, it doesn't have to be that way but that's how my other forum' tourney is being run and it seems pretty fair. I'd like no items myself but that's how it goes I guess. |

I prefer untimed. I hate getting into sudden deaths. As I said we can get a referee for a witness. And some characters had an unfair advantage at getting Smash Balls. Just ask Lucas, Pikachu, Ness and Zelda. Just something to think about. Also I hate hammers, a lot. I barely use characters with multiple jumps. Can we ban these if we are using items? |

Not to bash that or anything, Swim, but that's a fairly traditional tournament. Tournament as in it's designed to determined who is the best on raw, pure skill by removing all the random elements from the game. Flat, featureless stages and no items to potentially tip the scales. And while that works, I tend to feel that it's a little... dry. Obviously I'm not participating in the first tourney, but I feel I should say it anyway. Brawl isn't a traditional fighting game, there's a lot of random elements involved and it's not all about raw skill. But the random elements can make these things a complete blast, with everyone laughing and having so much fun per match. It all depends what you're aiming for with the tourney. Simply put, are you having a tourney for fun? Or to see who is the best here, no questions asked? Given that most of you seem pretty casual and use a wide variety of characters, I'd say it's more of the former. |

I have an idea! How about we get three rounds per match? One, the traditional way. No items, neutral stages, blah, blah, blah. Second round, random, items and any stage can be chosen. Third, if there is a tie so far, is still something I should think about. If there is any suggestions, feel free to add on. There, purists and casuals can both be happy. |

Either way works, and no offense taken Delfeir, it was just a suggestion. And believe me, I know some characters are better than others at getting the smash balls.. I wish my other forum was doing no items. I enjoy playing for fun and to see who is the best, I could go with restricted items and stages or not, I really don't care. What bugs me is when only some of the items are eliminated. The way I see it, tournaments should be all items or no items. That's not how they are of course but I really don't think they should only restrict some things... I once played in a tournament where it was against the rules to use Ike, and despite how many people have used him to slaughter me, I think that's a really bad rule. Another thing we should determine are how many people per round. Just 1 v 1s or 4 v 4s? And is it single elimination or do players have to be beaten 2 or 3 times before they're out? |

Ike should not be banned. He has a serious weakness against those with projectiles for one thing. And he can be seriously punished if his laggy attacks don't hit. I thought we were all past the Ike is cheap phase. Now it's the Snake is cheap phase. I do think some items should be banned. I just can't stand Heart Containers, Hammers or Deku Nuts but that is just me. I'm sure others dislike them as well. And Smash Balls should be also considered. As I said some characters can get them easier than others. Heck, I have stories of actually KOing folks on With Anyone with Pikachu because I was aiming for the Smash Ball with Thunder and the other players all let their guard down. Let's just say I KOed them even with out a Final Smash and I got the FS anyway. It all depends what kind of tournament this is. A test of skill or simple fun? |
