Who thought up adding item use in this tourney? Because I want to buy them a drink in three weeks' time. |

Evo is serious business tournament stuff. It doesn't matter if this is a kid's game to them. But since they've thoroughly screwed up these past couple years. One, what was up with single elimination last year in the Third Strike tournament? Single-elim is for Tougeki, not Evo. We in America believe in second-chances and, more importantly, drawing things out as long as possible. That was un-American. Biggest mistake? I'm not going to complain about the serious lack of Melty Blood and Arcana Heart at Evo. I'm complaining about the lack of Guilty Gear. With that in mind, the Brawl thing seems trivial. Besides, it seems that this game is much more item-centric than the last one. I don't know, though. I'm not up to date on Brawl's metagame. I have no intention of it. But, even if items are brokesauce, I'm above it at the moment. Evo already failed when they dropped Guilty Gear. At least Hyrule is still banned, right guys? |

off the top of my head the only item that isn't a wtfpwn for whoever holds it is a Mr. Saturn or a banana. There are probably others though. And GSA, I don't think AH has the market penetration for enough competitors to come over in the tournament yet. It's no Brawl, so not enough people have (yet) bought it. And AFAIK most US players will all be doing it on a dualshock instead of the Arcade machines so the JPNers that will inevitably come across will probably Destroy us all! But yeah, no GG, what's up with that? |

I figure the only reason we don't have an Evo Melty Blood tournament is because it hasn't been localized. In this same respect, the only reason we don't have an AH tournament is because it's not popular enough. One's popular enough but not actually here. The other's actually here and viable, but not enough people play. Alas. But, yeah. I'm upset more about the Guilty Gear thing than anything else. Does the US not care about how much better Japan is than us at arcade games anymore? Evo and Super Battle Opera are the only times I get to feel patriotic. And I don't know exactly how Japan's taking Brawl, but I doubt they're taking it as seriously as they would Guilty Gear. |

I wish I had a PS2(or hell, even better, a PS3 that can play PS2...but they're rather rare) so I can play GG and such...sigh. But yeah. They're one of the communities that realize and admit that Brawl is run more for randomness in fights and fun rather than professional environments. Good job. And yeah, I do say, you want pro mode? Go play Melee and GTFO. |

I think Guilty Gear isn't appearing at EVO because they've stopped caring about any fighting game that doesn't have Ryu/Ken in it. Granted, this means Brawl should be gone, too, but still. |

The Arcade (and the itinerant culture associated with it) has, like its spiritual predecessor the carnival game before it, gone the way of the dinosaur in America. I can point out how that analogy works and why it's a good baseline, but I'll just say gaming culture hasn't reached saturation point in NA like it has in JPN. The market for really high end skill games shrank away with the arcades and probably won't show up again until the kids born from 2000 onward, the 'gaming heavy generation' reach maturity.
