It's a brilliant game with an intense metagame. Lots of top players from the Street Fighter and Melty Blood fanbases have the game, myself included. Not to imply, by any means, that I'm a top player. I meant a lot of people who play those games play this. And, though I own it, I've never actually played it. I keep putting off. It looks like a lot of fun, particularly for fans of fighting games like myself. Its cancel system seems very unique, and the roster of characters all play uniquely. Furthermore, there's the arcana system, where one chooses a particular "alignment," which is similar but different from the Groove System of Capcom vs. SNK, if you're familiar with that. And, it's worth it to note that the game showed up at Tougeki (Super Battle Opera) last year, and will show up again this year. Tougeki's the largest fighting game tournament in the world and the games they play are always the "serious business" games. Whether or not you'd enjoy the game is likely already determined. As has been cleverly mentioned before, "The game is a niche within a niche within a niche. You probably already know whether or not you're going to buy this game." So, are you a big 2D fighting game fan? Do you like competitive games? Are you all right with a MOSTLY loli cast? If so, this is definitely a game for you. If not, you'll hate it. And, to be honest, some of the girls in this game are too developed to be considered lolis. "Loli" characters are defined by prepubescent characteristics. In this sense, characters with too much development do not fit this role. |

OIC. I have some srys bsns fighting games (Like SCII or Melee or a GG) and some attempts like Valkyrie fight tag but find the dizzying array of crap you have to keep track of in order to even get onto the playing field in 2d fighters daunting. And bad design (you know if all your sales are from one group then it's not good, it's bad, since hardcore gamers usually stop being hardcore at around 25-30 unless they're pro) to make the barriers to entry for novices really really high. |

It's a wonderful game with a great complexity. It's also hard to pick up and enjoy unless you like 2D fighters. You'd probably dislike it unless you've got people around to keep it interesting. This was a silly game to bring stateside. Too few people would actually want to play it. And those that would play it already imported it. |

My friend has this game; he's a fighting game addict, especially for this kind of game. If you like Street Fighter or Guilty Gear at all, like Alex said, chances are you'll really like this. Also, Melty Blood was the shiz, I suggest you look into it. As Alex said, a lot of the people that like this kind of stuff love both Arcana Heart and Melty Blood. They should all be out for PS2, I think. *also has Guilty Gear X2 Reload on PC* *W00T!* |

Yes, I've heard that the design is top notch and the team really put a lot of thought into it. But not being of the Insomniac mindset re: games, though I too hate tech gimmicks disguised as games (and really only appreciating the Sirlin one, as the intro says, I don't swing that way but know enough about high level competitive games to respect those who do) I guess it's not quite for me. Heck mang, my COUSIN is the best Melee competition I've got, and we never shffld, wd' etc. Got about as far as DIing and Teching. |

I think I'll articulate my position better on this, rather than coming off as a casual elitist. -The amount of effort needed to become good at this game and utilize everything that the engine has to offer is a large hurdle, even to become mediocre. That, combined with the ridiculous gulf between the top of the line professiona and people just starting out means I will essentially start of at "Enemy gets Perfect Victory" and if I'm lucky graduate to "Enemy is below 80% when he KO's me" given the amount of time I want to divest in it. Basically it's economics - I'd rather play a game with a shorter learning curve so the payoff - deep matches against intelligent people, happens faster, and (given my own frank appeasment of my skills) happens at all. |
