I think this one is because Pro matches are timed, and when the faster character gets a KO, they can run around the whole place until the time runs out. |

If I ever get put in charge of organizing a Smash tournament, people will hate me for it. Why? I intend on using these rules. 1.) You must use a character, any character, other than your main. Or, for that matter, any of its clones. Example: I main Falco, therefore, I cannot use Falco, Fox, or Wolf. Reasoning: Let's see just how good you are without your precious Fox. 2.) The following stages are banned: Battlefield, Final Destination, Lylat Cruise, Smashville, Yoshi's Island, and Pokémon Stadium. Exception: The final round will happen on Final Destination, on account of it being, well, final. Reasoning: I'm a bit hesitant about banning things, but then again, I want this to be a big "[radio edit] you" to all the "pros." 3.) Items are allowed, with the following exceptions: Heart Container, Maxim Tomato, food, Starman. Reasoning: I like items. Items are good. But at the same time, there's a limit. Invincibility is bad, as is recovering damage. I'm tempted to put the hammers in here too, but with the squeaky/headless hammers in there, this may be a "wait and see" sort of thing. 4.) Whining about my rules to me will get you retroactively disqualified from the tournament. That is, we will go back to your round one win, give it to your opponent, and rerun all the matches you won from there. You will, essentially, be treated as if you had never signed up. Reasoning: If you're not having fun, I don't want you here. GTFO, and give me back my door prize. |

I'd maybe take out Rule 1, and change 3 a little bit - Instead of banning Food, ban the Party Balls that cause Food to drop. But i'm totally Okay with Rule 1. I can simply run to Ness or Olimar if my Climbers are banned. |

Thanks for the vote of confidence, Bowser. I'd probably be run off by all of Brawl Central if I did pull this stunt, though. Which is not to say that it wouldn't be worth it... Anyway, proposed alternative to Rule 1: Your character choice is "Random." That is, at the beginning of each match, your character is chosen at random, through Brawl's "Random" feature. Reasoning: Adapt or die. The choice is yours. (Plus, it will reward aptitude with all characters rather than just, say, Marth.) I never did like Party Balls, anyway. An item that contains more items? Feature exists, and is called "Barrel/Crate/Capsule/Egg." Food, however, still recovers damage, and there are ways other than the Party Ball to get food (Peach and Diddy's Final Smashes come to mind, with Peach's FS the worse offender). Admittedly, I don't know if those FSes still provide food if it's turned off via Item Select, but it's another "wait and see" deal. And by the way, since I forgot to mention it earlier, items are set to Medium via Item Select. |

Screw the rules, I have money! Please, can't we make our own rules? If we want crazy matches then why not have crazy stages? We decide what stages, characters or items can be used here at the temple. Screw the rules. I just wanna have fun. I am not limiting my wifi gameplay with you guys for some rules that a website I don't care about except for leaks said. There is a reason I am a member of the Temple and never signed up for Smash Boards or any other boards like that. I like random. I don't have gamer friends. I want to laugh when someone on wifi from the Temple unleashed Mr. Resetti and stuff like that. I wanna try out all stages with you all. Don't be persuaded by arrogant "pros" by letting them tell you what stages to use or what items should be turned off. Come on, enjoy the experience! Don't make me sad. |

Woah, KP. We're not actually following the crappy Pro Players' rules. We're just making fun of them. Take a deep breath, KP. |

That's a relief. I got scared there for a second. When it comes to multiplayer in real life (when I actually get friends who want to play video games), we always laugh at each others misfortunes. This is why I am always aaginst tiers and banning and stuff like that. |

It's pretty obvious all "tournaments" among pros would be played only on perfectly balanced Stage Builder stages without items or Final Smashes, because that would make for the most "professional" gameplay. The reason I'd support that for the professional scene is because that would be the only proper way to determine genuine "player skill" among that area of the playerbase, which is pretty much the point of srs tournament play. I'd play either non-serious multiplayer or solo for all that stuff, which would make me entertained enough that I never feel bad about not being able to play a game online with other human beings.

To be honest, if people want über-balanced gameplay, they should go play Guilty Gear rather than try to suck out the fun of Smash. They've come out with several versions of it just so they could rebalance the game. Smash was not designed that way. It should not be made to be that way. |

Exactly. And Hin, haha, I was going to suggest the Random thing too, when I saw your first suggestion of the rules - I use Random anyway, and everyone should be able to use everyone. But yeah, banning stages = phail. If you can't deal with the hazards, you're not a good player. I agree with Starman, Tomato, and Heart - to an extent. It's annoying as hell when someone else gets them, yeah, and a potential match-turner. But at the same time, it's fun when the match gets more frenzied like that, and 'sides - if you can't deal with the game... Food actually, I don't have a problem with. It takes time to eat, and you're totally vulnerable while you're eating - more than once, while my friends are chowing down on food, I come up and smash them without consequences. XD Since being near food basically disables your A button attacks, it's tougher to defend yourself. But, I'm totally with Lin. ^_^ No rules at Temple pour moi, unless you want to do something for fun! (for example, 99 lives/damage ratio: high/items: very high/pokeballs only is AWESOME. |

There's a competitive scene, and there's casual gaming. Real tournaments with money on the line are designed to test skill and experience and pretty much everything else a player has at their disposal, except luck. That's really the environment where I thrive. That said, I'll play Guilty Gear or Melty Blood in a tournament over Smash pretty much any day. Smash has always been more of a fun game than a grit-my-teeth-and-hope-my-combos-turn-out-all-right game. So, strictly enforcing rules that strip away the fun from most people? Not a good idea for playing with those people. So, really, all I'm saying is that tourney rules have a time and place. Evo World, down in Las Vegas, which has a huge Smash tournament. Even Japan's Tougeki, the largest video game tournament in the world, acknowledges that Smash is too fun to put rules on. Casual play should be fun. Whatever rules accomplish that are the rules to use. You can also quote me on this: Brawl probably won't have a competitive metagame. But if it does, there's no guarantee that even items will be banned. Oh, and I <3 rule number one. But, what if I have two mains because one's a counterpick? Both, and all their clones, banned? |

The initial rule number 1, not the random version, assumes that people won't lie about their mains - and hell, since the point's just to get rid of Fox, they'd just switch to another top/high tier character, and you'd see the same scenario. You might end up having to ban all the good characters, and that's no fun. |

Lol, attempting to balance games by banning. If you ban Fox, all of the other characters lose a bad matchup, which makes them even more broken. Shiek moves to God tier, and becomes an unstoppable force until she gets banned. Etcetera, etcetera, we all end up playing Game and Watch. And I wasn't saying that I'd lie about my main. I have two to cover all of the bases. Evo Rules say that a match is best 2/3, and losers of rounds can switch their character. You need a counterpick. Like, they play Dr. Mario, and you play Fox. You win, according to matchups. They counterpick Peach, who rapes Fox. You need someone to beat Peach in order to win. So, do both Fox and my counterpick get banned? |
