Is this a good game? I've not played it, I've not watched the videos, I don't know anybody outside of my internet acquaintances who has it, so I really know next to nothing about it. But I'm curious, is it a good game? I'm particularly interested in how it stacks up against Melee, with which I am extremely familiar (and I'm familiar with the original, too, but with Melee being, in my opinion, a complete improvement over the original, I ask only for comparisons with the other most recent). I don't know... when contemplating buying a Wii, one asks these kinds of questions, and I figure I'll find lots of people here who play, although the opinions here might be a little lopsided. |

*stares* *continues to stare* Stare~ Yes. Yes it is. It is a good game. If only for Online Brawling. And then there's Zero-Suit Samus, who's so quick and made of win and lacks videos show her and Samus off which I think is total stupidity as everyone's too busy playing with all the other new characters. Where was I? Oh yes! Yes, it is good. If you enjoyed Melee, get Brawl. Pre-order if you can, otherwise prepare to wait a long time. |

Poor network, or just don't want to deal with jerkwads? Either way, Brawl is and will be worth getting. Of course, there are other Wii games that are worth it too, but that isn't what you had asked. |

Right. Thing is, I've just never liked playing games online. I tend to enjoy playing single-player modes, or multi-player with large groups of people right around me, thus why I never really took to Battle.net on StarCraft and never did any online play on my GCN (Phantasy Star) or X-Box (various fighting games I have) even though I could have. I don't know what it is exactly, but for some reason, I'm just not interested in the online gaming. So, it's Melee + More Characters, who are fun to play with. We didn't lose anybody did we? |

Amethyst put it nicely. ![]() If you enjoyed melee, (which I can say I'm certain that you did)then you'll most certainly enjoy Brawl. I think they only added new content and took away some glitches and useless things(character clones, things that weren't supposed to be there upon release, etc.). |

Yeah, they took out a bunch of characters, and some of the "clones" that they left in had their move sets tweaked so that they weren't really clones any more. Falco's Reflector, for example, was changed so that he kicks it and sends it away from him making it more offensive in use now. |

They took out such characters as Pichu, Dr. Mario, etc. The only important person they really took out was Mewtwo. They took out Kid Link, but not really, because Toon Link IS Kid Link. |

Don't worry if you do plan at the end to play on wifi. I don't plan on playing on wifi either outside of The Temple. If you play with us we hopefully won't be jerks. |

Bummer, I thought Mewtwo was cool. So, the removed Pichu (who was different than Pikachu) and Dr. Mario (was he distinct from Mario at all? and I don't mean similar, I mean distinct, because I know he was extremely similar, but like Pichu, he was a different character, methinks.) What controller or controller combo is used for this game? How sweet is the Pokémon Trainer? ... Oh, wait... I just checked GameFAQs and realized that you guys haven't played this yet... right? It lists the US Release Date as March the Ninth. ... I feel dumb. Let's revive this topic after ya'll've actually played it for a while. |

We've got lots of information. Heck, they released information on Brawl for over half a year, and its out in Japan. While we might not have game experience, we have the next best thing, and that's more information than can be contained in anything outside the internet. That, and Nintendo started up Brawl Tournaments in select cities this past weekend in America. Anyways, for your questions: You can use any controller that the Wii can support. IE: Wiimote itself; Wiimote & Nunchuk; Classic Controller; GCN Controller. As far as I know, Dr. Mario was essentially just a re-sprited Mario, with his attacks re-sprited to fit him better. I could be wrong, but I don't know the specifics of his stats. Pichu was just a smaller Pikachu who had moves that could hurt him, so in a sense... yeah, he could be distinct. As for Pokemon Trainer... I haven't seen the Pokemon Trainer be used much, let alone to its fullest. |

Oh, and Roy is also removed, Suezo. =/ Anyway, yeah, Dr. Mario basically just had a quicker fall rate/was heavier, threw pills for his B attack, and his Smash was incredibly strong compared to Mario, but close range. |

Dr. Mario was a clone character, though he wasn't just a respriting. The different qualities on his attacks completely changed his range game, and thus his playstyle. That, and you can't sprite a polygon. But I'm here for fighting game discussion, not semantics. If you enjoyed Melee, expect essentially a familiar game. It's like everything you knew, only changed. Like playing the same game, only with a different physics engine, changed movesets, different move qualities, a different focus, different emphasis on items... So, yeah. A vaguely similar game. And if you were a cool kid that delved into the metagame, it's been shattered. Whether or not a new metagame will arise will take a few more months. Have to find all of the exploitable stuff. If you're hoping for an expanded Melee, too bad. It's the same but different. Whether or not it's worth it to play, I can't give you an official ruling. I would bet on no, but I'd like to be surprised. Were you more casual or competitive? If it's the latter, and I mean tournament competitive, you'll be disappointed. |

I'm a casual gamer all the way. ![]() I just like playing games for fun occasionally. But, for this reason, I have to make sure that each investment I make is one worth making to me personally. And a Wii looks like something I might buy... |

As a more casual gamer, unlike Alex, I can officially say that Super Smash Bros. Brawl looks to be one of the greatest games I've ever seen. The soundtrack alone is amazing, and with the addition of a stage builder and the ability to choose soundtrack (from like 287+ songs!), they'll be put to good use. The characters are each well thought-out, and the character design is brilliant. Subspace Emissary, which is like the new uber-awesome Adventure mode complete with plot, cutscenes, and battles innovative to the Smash series, it looks to be a blast. Not to mention, if it weren't enough difficultly before, I hear they've ramped it up to insane levels. I can't speak for how it actually feels, to me, but it's been described as somewhere between the original and Melee, with some new balancing things so all the characters will -try- to play more equal. Considering I plugged over 120 hours for a joke into Melee, just sitting and playing with my friends, I can bet I'll spend even more with Brawl. Plus, Wifi - and Suez', Adna, if you get it you're playing against us Kradenettes, at least. =D |

Stagebuilding never really appealed to me at all. >_>; I tried mapmaking in TimeSplitters, and all the maps were pretty crappy. >_> But now that I've got a way better mentality, maybe I'll take another shot at it. ^^ |

I always like building stages. I used to do it in Tony Hawk a lot. I think it was in the third one that I did? Maybe the fourth? Don't quite remember. The customizable soundtrack also sounds like fun to me. And I watched a video of the new Adventure Mode, which looks like a load of fun. But, again, I'll refrain from asking more questions until some folks here will have had it for a while... |
