I kind of have a problem in Emerald... Party: Level 25 Combusken Level 21 Kirlia, Gloom, Minun, Azumarill I'm trying to do the third gym in Mauville (Electric type) but the Pokemon go as far as Level 24 and Combusken ends up being pwned by Magneton leaving whatever Pokemon aren't down to deal with Manectric. Which is a pain in the ass. And Wattson keeps using freaking Super Potions. T_T Is there a way to get my Pokémon to level up quicker? Or am I screwed? I guess I should have not avoided trainers and spent more time fighting wild Pokémon. I did go back a bit and fight some trainers, but it's not enough. D= I should have picked up a decent rock/ground Pokémon somewhere. If I'm having this much trouble against the third gym, maybe I should just quit. T_T Pearl was much easier than this! |

There should be lots of places around Mauville that you can train in... |

I'd rather be outside.

Cycling road. There are trainers West of Mauville. The wild Pokémon around Mauville aren't too strong, IIRC. |

Or, failing that, you could hop on back to that place with the second gym (Dewport? I've forgotten...) and catch yourself an Aron or something. |

Minun seems to be an oddly weak choice for an Electric type IMHO... If your Azumarill has Thick Fat, that would make it an inferior Azumarill because one with Huge Power is much better at competitive battling. I found Ruby easier than Pearl, BTW. |

Ah, but Ruby is not Emerald. Emerald, y'see, was created after R/S. The creators learned from their mistakes. Therefore, it is a certified pain in the ass. I know firsthand; I've played it. |

Hmm. Well, it could be because I had played Ruby legit, then emulated Emerald later on, that they seemed to be the same easy difficulty to me. Emulation tricks like save states can make hard games cakewalks, after all... But even so, in Emerald you can easily catch a level 70 Rayquaza before the Pokemon League to win the league much more easily than in Ruby and Sapphire. |

Already cleared out Cycling Road and I battled all the trainers I can find around Mauville, so that's no good. I guess I might just go back and find an Aron somewhere like Enro suggested. |

What attacks are you making Combusken use? At it's level, repetetive Double Kick should get rid of his first 3, and Manectric should be easy with your other pokemon. |

Fire Attacks should also easily work against Magneton. It's steel, after all. However, your problems most exist because you did not choose Mudkip. Marshtomp owns Roxxane. Mashtomp is pretty good against Brawley. Marshtomp owns Wattson. Marshtomp owns Flannery. Swampert is pretty good against Norman. Swampert does not own Winona, but he does a pretty damn fine job, especially with a rock move on hand. Swampert owns Tate and Liza Swampert holds his own against Juan and Wallace. Swampert is pretty damn good against the Shiten'no, too. |
