Lolz, invented a new subtitle to include both subtitles. Got this game today. Like it so far. Not typing much because it's hard to put it down. I'll put my friend code some time later. |

Finally beat "A Hero's Farewell." It was such a long, drawn out battle.... and I still S ranked it. Thought I would get a B rank for sure. I hate Greyfield! The Hitler lookalike. I am Jewish, so... |

Isn't that chapter 14? I did that on my first try. Just build a good defense of tanks and indirect units. Bombers make great use for taking out meteorites, but a well built navy can also help you. I'm on Chapter 16, Hope Never Dies. Hated 15...it puts you as such impossible odds. And Sigsimundo, aka Greyfield, is hated by me as well. GOD DAMN FATSO, commanding my troops! And I hate him even more after Chapter 15... And Lin is AWESOME! I love her attitude, humorous and cocky at the same time...best CO ever. |

I figured it out. I FIGURED OUT WHY THE NAMES ARE SOOOO DIFFERENT! It's because of Super Smash Bros Brawl. See Sakurai does not care about Advance Wars. It's always Ike this and Lin that.I don't think the AW assist trophy even have an update. Ok so what does this have to do with the names? Simple. With different names Nintendo has an excuse not to put Days of Dark Conflict in Ruin characters in Brawl. They can say that it will be too confusing to "casual" players who don't play advance wars and ask about these characters if they come in as assist trophies or such. This is what will happen thanks to name changes. "Wow, Will is such a powerful AT. He pwned Ivysaur." "Who is this Will?" "Well let me show you a screenshot of him" "You n00b, that is Ed" "You the n00b, it's Will" [This message has been deleted at the request of a moderator or administrator] Nintendo of Japan: Ok Nintendo of America and Nintendo of Europe do not look at each other's translations. Ok, work on your own. NoA: Sure thing NoE: No prob. NoJ: *after they leave* Tee hee hee, The plan is a success, now AW will barely have any representation. |

I just got Days of Ruin today. I am HORRIBLE at advance wars though... >.< Edit: Well, I'm up to chapter 16. The game seems much more balanced then in Dual Strike, and the CO powers are actually pretty fun to work with in this version. |

Just beat chapter 21 through excessive Battleship spam. That mission would have been very difficult if Greyfield had started off with a Cruiser. Or worse, two. Without those, it was easy for my subs to tear apart his own Battleships, while I simply stalled him on land until I could bring some Battleships up to break the deadlock. Lin is awesome. |

Never played Advance Wars, but proud to say I think I'm doing quite well. Up to chapter 15 in this one, only really beat one trial map. Only tried two though. 14 Was both delightfully entertaining and very challenging. It was a great feeling to win. I used my units and two rockets and two battleships to push all his units back to around the laser, took out his rocket with mine (which was sitting on a city to recover after their fights), the battleships decimated everything he generated, and then I held that position for a few days, utilizing the time to grab most of the cities in reach and cut down his funding while raising my own, then took his front factory to cut down his units. Eventually, I pushed him to the far back, stood on a factory and airport so they couldn't produce, so he could only make navy units that couldn't get to me, and I took his capital. |

I wonder why this game feels more punishingly hard and unforgiving than the last one... Seems like I've been only playing 1.5 missions a day after my first eight missions the first day. O_O I WILL get loads of medals like I did the last one, though. |

Grah! I think mission 14 is the threshold between how well I can play and how well I can't. I really can't imagine myself ever beating that mission legit in a reasonable enough amount of time that it would leave me more thrilled about beating it than annoyed... I HATE that mission. It's unsavory enough that I feel I can label it borderline torture! :( The campaign mode for the previous Advance Wars DS game was the only AW campaign I ever beat without cheats because that game really was easier than the others, but for this game I'm gonna have to start cheating now to progress. I see I'll have to use the infinite funds code at CodeJunkies here for at least this mission... |

14? Alright, firstly, do not engage in naval battle. Drop your sub and keep it within striking range of the Carrier and Battleship, as this will keep the Cruiser around them as well. If you get the opportunity to attack the Carrier without remaining visible, then do so. Taking out the Carrier is fairly important, because you don't want to be having Seaplanes around. Instead, try and get out a Battleship or two, and use them in conjunction with your sub (provided its still alive) to wipe out the naval threats, then turn on the land units, preferably Anti-Airs first to allow air units to advance. As for the land battle, play defensively. Build a Fighter at the first possible chance to ward off the Duster that will be coming, and then invest in a Bomber or two. Hold Forsythe off at the city directly south of his Rocket, best done by placing a Battlecopter there, and retreating it to just outside the Anti-Air's range when necessary. Position your own Rockets on the space between that city and the port (which you should capture ASAP), and the Anti-Airs nor Medium Tanks will advance within striking distance if you place your Artillery in the forest on the right. One Missile should remain at the shore to deter incoming aircraft, and possibly act as a decoy to Forsythe's Battleship. The other should advance to the right of the plasma wall to stall the Duster that will come, since you can block it with a Battlecopter, and so long as your Missiles can counterattack, Forsythe won't attack it. Get your tanks up as close to the Rockets without entering striking range, then take the right Meteorite out with either Battlecopters or Bombers. Immediately storm the Rockets, and take out as many threats in the area as possible. This will probably require some planning to prevent a harmful counterattack, so take your time. Don't take out the Meteorite until you are ready to strike, because I think the Rockets will flee if they are open. From that point, take the brunt of your force and proceed north to wipe out the remaining units or capture the HQ. I had used up my only fighter at that point, so I was forced to simply blockade the enemies up there as I captured it, but I had gotten pretty reckless at that point. I wound up with a 376 using this strategy, in 14 days. Remember to save at the start of every day, so that way if something did not go as planned, you can reset. And remember, if it says 91%, you can keep resetting until it kills. That's how I had to take out the Carrier. |

Whoa... Didn't think players would've devised lengthy strategies for that mission already. I guess I'll try doing that mission normally later on using your strategy just for the heck of it, so thanks for posting all that. I think I would've preferred even mission 14 to mission 15, though... The Icy Retreat is EXTREMELY tricky and one I've lost at at least three times now, trying out different strategies each time. ![]() EDIT: I've progressed past that point with the Restore Unit HP codes... I'm thinking I'll just cheat my way through the rest of the game now because I honestly like the story and characters enough I want to see what happens. ^_^; The game's now too darn difficult to be fun gameplaywise without outside assistance, so I won't be masochistic. Incidentally: RyuKenshin says he's "HORRIBLE" at Advance Wars, but if he cleared all those missions himself without any AR then I say he's horribly WRONG about himself; He is a legitimately GOOD player of Advance Wars, in my humble opinion. |

Beat the game, yesterday. The artwork for this game is beautiful. Now I can go to AW message boards safely because I won't have a risk of spoilers anymore. An interesting thing I read is that Penny/Lili?'s CO theme has lyrics in it. I listen to it more carefully and I hear stuff like "What have you done?" And "Post office" O_o More here, but there are spoilers in the topic: http://www.advancewarsnet.com/forums/index...showtopic=32611 |

Wouldn't surprise me, since it's Penny. I'm actually stuck on Great Owl right now, probably because I haven't formed a suitable strategy to minimize losses yet. Once I actually get some sort of plan, I'll probably continue. But I've been distracted lately by some reading, so it's not going to be soon. |
