I figured it's better to make this a separate topic from Path of Radiance, even though it's the actual storyline sequel to the GC game, and I don't see this talked about anywhere else. POR was my favorite FE so I look forward to this one a lot. :D

Discuss nao.

Never finished PoR. I didn't enjoy it as much as FE6, 7, or 8... so there's no point in me looking forward to the sequel.

Heh, wow, what a bunch of party poopers. lol (And what Candy? Are you referring to Kindle's Japanese name in Advance Wars?)

If you had Action Replay for GC, you could just give yourself max bonus experience in POR, upgrade all your favorite units, and then blow through the game, only paying attention to the story, cuz that'd be really fun. I think you're missing out if you didn't do that game's final battle, what with some legitimately astounding thundering-orchestra music there that puts even the Brawl main theme to shame.

This game really appeals to me for featuring many of the same characters in older form, but it looks like the story isn't all that dependant on the previous game, so you could play it without being confused; kinda like how FE6 doesn't require playing FE7 to grasp what goes on.

To anyone who hasn't played/finished POR so that they could form a final opinion on it and possibly consider this sequel, I have this to say: Your loss, my win. :D

How the heck is "candy" supposed to be related to Fire Emblem!?

It doesn't relate to Fire Emblem. It relates to me making some quick cash.

Good for you, Tristy; I don't think anyone'd have the right to say that a game is subpar if they didn't play the whole thing, as the part they missed might end up surprising them. My opinion of Final Fantasy 12 would have been worse than it is now if I had decided to quit halfway through like I was tempted to at the time, after all... True story.

BTW, Kyaro: I'm guessing you got the FE6 ROM with that translation patch applied to it. I did that recently too, and it's so great a fan localization that I sometimes am tricked into thinking it was done professionally by Nintendo. I haven't played it the last week, though, almost as if I had actually lost interest in it about 13 missions through. O_O I really should summon the drive and motivation and see the rest of that game, as I'm sure I'll have been glad to have done so by the game's end.

Never got a GC, and probabluy never will. As such, will probably never get to play any of these new Fire Emblem games. Still, the GBA games were pwnsome, so I'm quite the fan of the series.

Didn't know that, actually.... But I don't have a Wii either, so knowing that is kinda pointless.

Would you get a Wii if Golden Sun characters appear in Super Smash Bros. Brawl? Or if Golden Sun 3 is announced for Wii? I'll leave it to you to think about those questions. =D

Thus far, I've liked this game quite a lot. Now, one of the things I really like about the Fire Emblem series is that each character has an absolutely amazing official artwork of him or her. When you beat PoR, you unlock the full Artwork gallery for all the playable characters in the game, and then you can connect the GBA Fire Emblems with the GameCube and unlock all the official character art for those two games as well, so you end up with over a hundred high-quality images you can look at at will. Everything from Ike to Tethys to Legault to Bartre to Amelia to Boyd to Eirika to Vaida to Eliwood to Mist. It's really cool IMHO.

This game seems to take that even a step further: its artwork gallery is unlocked from the start, but starts out empty, and it builds up everytime you beat a mission. Beating a mission unlocks the official character art for each character that has been introduced in that mission, which helps me to get to know and appreciate the characters better, and there's a total of over 80 artworks to unlock this way. For me, that's incentive to play the game with all the more eagerness. :D

I might consider getting one, especially if GS3 is announced for it. But right now, it isn't exactly high on the priorities list.

From what I've played, I can identify several things that seem like good improvements over the previous game.

First of all, it doesn't feel like playing PoR is at all a prerequisite for understanding the story, somewhat like how you don't need to play the other game if you played one game in the FE6/FE7 set. Playing PoR beforehand merely works to delight me whenever I see the older version of a character I know from before, but that's not actually required to enoy the characters; the characters aren't bad even if you didn't play PoR. You mostly play as new characters anyway. (Thus far I like Nolan pretty well as a character, with his slight Aragorn-with-an-axe influence...)

All the items seem to have higher durability ratings, and they finally got the healing item system reasonable; Herbs restore 10 HP per use and have 10 durability, Vulneraries cure 20 HP and have 8 durability, etc. Also, you get the merchants convoy three missions in, and this time you can forge as many weapons as you'd like instead of one per mission, and rare expensive items from Aimee that can be bought like Golden Sun artifacts and are only available before certain missions (like an available beast-killing knife right before the mission where you first battle a lot of beastmen) puts more interesting twists on item management. (And at least the music here isn't as "eh" as the convoy music in the previous game).

Speaking of which: thus far, the music seems to be the only thing about FE that isn't quite as great as previous games, seeming a little messy at times during battle.

And staff-wielding priests can now at least counterattack with their staves.

Finally, the battle-suspend save system is different, now working exactly like the Phoenix Wright save system; you can save anytime during battle, then reuse that save file as many times as you need so you can progress through battles exactly the way you'd like without having to start whole missions over. This might seem like cheating, but the battles themselves seem somewhat harder and trickier in general, so I sure love that.

Of course I'll have to play the whole thing before I can safely recommend it to anyone... But thus far I quite like it indeed. :D

EDIT: Wikipedia reports that this game is going to get "extremely difficult", and that the new save system taken together with it will make for a more strategic experience than ever before, and it has "50 hours of gameplay"... Hmm, I guess I can call myself a series die-hard if I complete the game then! =D

I do like some things they improved on, like being able to control certain NPC units (yellow)...

Wait - you got the game after all? That's great! =D And here I thought you were indicating you weren't going to play it because you didn't like the last console game... ^_^;

Uh... no. I thought you were on the subject of Path of Radiance versus FE6/7/8. Sorry for the confusion...
