As my first created topic since my Introduction, I thought I'd fill in a blank in the collection of topics in the Games category; a general thread about this long-running staple franchise of Blizzard Entertainment. I've only played the WarCraft 3 portion of the mythos, but the overall franchise certainly looks more colorful and almost wacky compared to The Lord of the Rings. I've already ranted previously on how I don't have broadband so I could never play World of WarCraft even though I'd love to, but I like the previous game regardless... but it's so friggin hard to beat a single-player Custom game even with opponent AI set to easy! My best efforts have only yielded me a couple wins out of two dozen losses thus far. Maybe I can get some time-tested development and assault strategies from the Golden Sun forum.

WoW is my mother's obsession. I played for a while, too. Got up to level 25 and was pretty much 'Ah SCREW IT!' and stopped.... And then The Knights Who Say Ni (Guild I was in) died. |

Your mother, eh? Well, maybe this isn't as unusual as I thought: I play Pokemon Pearl on my white DS, while my mother plays Pokemon Diamond on her black DS. As I write this she's upstairs with Pokemon Battle Revolution. But anyways... When I bought the WC3 Battle Chest it came with a 14-day trial edition of WoW, but I found out firsthand after installing it that it won't even run without a hefty Broadband connection AND a $180-a-year subscription fee. I felt betrayed by Blizzard for a while, but I now look forward to the more recently-announced StarCraft 2. |

Does it seem a lot easier to win a game of WC3 as Orcs vs. Orcs than Orcs vs. Humans? I was able to win twice in a row like that, once with the computer AI set to Normal. Hmm, I'm assuming the game in its most patched form is all balanced out... Anyway, what I'm really curious about is how WoW plays and feels in comparison to Diablo II, which is the same type of RPG game and IS something I've had for about 7 years now. |

Well, actually, never mind because information sites like the Warcraft Wiki and the database Wowhead do give me an idea of what the game is actually like. I have somewhat of a personal vendetta against paying $15-20 each month for just some game, so I don't know if I'll ever play World of Warcraft regardless of how good my circumstances are. I don't think I'd pay all that monthly money even if Golden Sun 3 were revealed to be a pay-to-play MMORPG (World of Weyard, perhaps?), in spite of how obsessively I love the franchise, because no video game is worth more than $60 IMHO, and it's sometimes hard for me to understand how so many other people (9 million) do have the tolerance for paying so much for playing MMORPGs like WoW for so long. (Although, keep in mind that I have yet to pursue any careers, and maybe that's what everyone else does to cover that cost. I'll just have to wait and see.)For now, what I'm doing instead is looking at those sites and learning more and more about the game's items, skills, classes, and what not, so that it'll be like I'm not actually missing out on the experience; I will know enough about the game that it feels like I played it regardless!

I'd say that unless you have a TON of time on your hands that you don't know what to do with, you may want to steer clear of WOW. I will add that I do have a 70 on bleeding hollow though. |

DotA=best custom map settings kinda map evar, Also saw a Starcraft mod for Warcraft 3. Once it's done, I'ma get it. Also I think I had a custom map made after Age of Empires once, I forgot. >_> Seriously, the best thing about Warcraft 3 and Starcraft are the map editors. Those are made of so much win.

Since the last time I posted here last year, I've gotten Broadband and have played it. Playing it for free on a fan-hosted private server where EXP and drop rates are x60 is just TOTALLY AWESOME.

I hate DotA. I get pwned by guys who have no lives outside of it. It's freaking annoying. They appear next to me when I'm minding my own business, and hack me to bits in 3 seconds. Not fun. |

A movie lasts ninety to one hundred and eighty minutes, roughly, and an adult ticket to go see one costs fifteen Australian dollars. The monthly fee for World of Warcraft is roughly eighteen dollars for me. I don't know about you, but I get a crapload more time than two to three hours of playtime each month on WoW. Thus I don't see what the huge issue about paying is. It's not like they're robbing you blind, and the game is constantly being upgraded and evolved, which is more than can be said about one-purchase games. Just my thoughts on the matter. I digress. I do like Warcraft 3, but I downright suck at it competitively, in regular and DotA style. But I do play World of Warcraft, have done so for about fifteen months now, and enjoy my time immensely. However, I would have quit the game long ago if not for the excellent community I've found, the friendships I've forged, and the RP I've had. Yes, I play on RP servers. And it's the only thing that keeps the game truly palatable... if I had to listen to some of the idiots I met on my time in other servers all the time, I would have killed myself long ago. |
