http://news.yahoo.com/s/afp/20070806/sc_af...on_070806132733 From what I could gather, we can now levitate the samllest of things. But that's it. |

It doesn't say how... Aww, man, I wanted to know how they did that. Ah well. I'm taking a course in quantum mechanics this year at uni. Should be able to understand how they did it. |

Look around ya! It's all over the place. Look at the mathematical elegance of the laws that govern the universe and the precision of the fine-tuning of its constants. Observe the fact of your sentience - the fact that you can observe that you observe. (And to nip any misperceptions in the bud: To only accept miracles as evidence for God is to miss the forest for the trees. The universe itself is the miracle. A God who designs a world that operates according to elegantly-designed laws and still produces the desired result - say, one or more sentient races - is a God that I personally find much more amazing than one who just pulls the universe out of a hat and has to constantly intervene with heavy-handed miracles. A scientific miracle, then, would be an unlikely event that occurs according to the usual laws of physics, but serves some purpose that God foresaw when he created the universe. Especially since quantum physics has killed strict determinism and allowed free will as a possibility, the idea of the meticulously fine-tuned "contingency universe" - if events x, y, and z happen, then incredibly unlikely event M(iracle) happens by the laws of physics without needing any sort of divine intervention - is a live hypothesis. An infinite mind could easily cogitate all possible branches the universe could take and set up contingencies for each, which would operate by the normal laws of physics and the universe's initial state) But, yeah, I'd have to say that someone who believes in psychic phenomena and doesn't believe that an intelligent agent had some role in the universe's construction doesn't know science very well.... |

Yeah, I think God made a lot of rules in creating this hellhole we call Earth, but they're not perfect. If they were, this place as a whole would be perfect. Thus, God doesn't strive for perfection. To me, perfection is only an illisuon the weak, misguided, and unsatisfied(for a safe choice of words) tell themselves so that they may strive for it. |
